Demonstration of an In-Network Computing Enabled Architecture for Holographic Streaming

Summary: The traditional closed-design paradigm of fixed functions in the data plane has evolved to an open-design paradigm of programmability, allowing for customized packet processing and unprecedented innovation. This shift has led to faster protocol development and adoption, improved network application development, granular visibility, reduced complexity, and enhanced performance. This paper provides a comprehensive survey of applications developed with P4 language, discussing challenges, future perspectives, and open research issues in programmable data plane switches.
