Spectroscopic fingerprint of charge order melting driven by quantum fluctuations in a cuprate

W. S. Lee et al.

Summary: The study used resonant inelastic X-ray scattering to explore spectroscopic evidence of fluctuations associated with charge order. In copper oxide high-T(C) superconductors, it was found that the interplay between charge order fluctuations and bond-stretching phonons differed from expectations for competing orders.

Ubiquitous Charge Order Correlations in High-Temperature Superconducting Cuprates

Shin-ichi Uchida

Summary: Recent research has successfully revealed universal aspects of charge order and its fluctuations in high-Tc cuprates. It has been found that charge order is compatible with superconductivity, with fluctuations having high onset temperatures and energy scales comparable to those of the pseudogap. The correlations of charge order may be essential for creating the pseudogap and potentially generating high-Tc superconductivity by collaborating with spin and pairing correlations.

X-ray Studies of the CDW Ground State and Excitations in High-TC Cuprates

Wei-Sheng Lee

Summary: This article reviews recent X-ray studies on the ground state and excitation spectrum of CDW in high-Tc cuprates, revealing the emergence of a three-dimensionally-ordered charge stripe state at low temperatures through suppressing superconductivity with high magnetic field. Utilizing state-of-the-art RIXS technology, the study found dispersive CDW excitations interfering with RIXS phonon excitations, offering new insight into the relationship between CDW, superconductivity, and quantum criticality within the cuprate phase diagram.

Charge Order at High Temperature in Cuprate Superconductors

Riccardo Arpaia et al.

Summary: The presence of different electronic orders, especially charge density waves, in cuprates suggests their key role in revealing the mysteries of these materials. Recent experiments have shown that very short-ranged charge modulations exist across a wider region of the phase diagram, coexisting with CDW at lower temperatures and persisting up to temperatures well above the pseudogap opening.

Superconductivity from Charge Order in Cuprates

John M. Tranquada et al.

Summary: Superconductivity in layered cuprates is induced by doping holes, while charge stripes are another common emergent order that competes with bulk superconductivity but can coexist with two-dimensional superconductivity. A new perspective of superconductivity based on pairing within charge stripes has been proposed.

Quantum Fluctuations of Charge Order Induce Phonon Softening in a Superconducting Cuprate

H. Y. Huang et al.

Summary: Quantum phase transitions are crucial in shaping the phase diagram of high-temperature cuprate superconductors, with evidence found for the role of charge order in the compound La2-xSrxCuO4 (LSCO) impacting phonon softening. These results provide insight into the quantum critical scaling and discommensurations associated with charge order in LSCO.

Charge density waves in cuprate superconductors beyond the critical doping

H. Miao et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that CDW correlations in La2-xSrxCuO4 persist up to a doping of at least x=0.21, with strong changes through the superconducting transition. Despite changes in Fermi surface topology and electronic transport at the critical doping value of x(c)approximate to 0.19, there is no obvious discontinuity, prompting a reconsideration of the role of CDW correlations in the high-temperature cuprate phase diagram.

Restored strange metal phase through suppression of charge density waves in underdoped YBa2Cu3O7-δ

Eric Wahlberg et al.

Summary: The study showed that in highly strained, ultra-thin, underdoped YBa2Cu3O7-delta films, the T-linear resistivity is restored when the CDW amplitude is suppressed, indicating an intimate connection between the onset of CDWs and the departure from T-linear resistivity in underdoped cuprates.
