N-Acetylcysteine in Mechanically Ventilated Rats with Lipopolysaccharide-Induced Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome: The Effect of Intravenous Dose on Oxidative Damage and Inflammation

Maros Kolomaznik et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effects of two different doses of intravenous N-acetylcysteine (NAC) on oxidative stress, inflammation and lung function in an animal model of severe LPS-induced lung injury. NAC significantly improved ventilatory parameters, oxygenation, reduced lung edema, white blood cell migration, and alleviated oxidative stress and inflammation. High dose NAC was more effective in reducing oxidative damage and inflammation compared to low dose NAC.
