Quantum critical points and the sign problem

R. Mondaini et al.

Summary: The sign problem is a fundamental limitation in simulations of strongly correlated matter. In this study, the quantitive connection between the sign problem in determinant quantum Monte Carlo (QMC) and quantum critical behavior is demonstrated through simulations of several well-understood models. A reinterpretation of the low average sign in the Hubbard model is proposed, relating it to the onset of pseudogap behavior and exotic superconductivity.

Size dependent nature of the magnetic-field driven superconductor-to-insulator quantum-phase transitions

Xiaofu Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that in two-dimensional films, the magnetic-field driven superconductor-to-insulator quantum-phase transition at zero temperature can be divided into a sequential transition from superconductor to Bose insulator to Fermi insulator. The nature of the transition is revealed through variations in sample dimensions and the importance of the quantum-Griffiths singularity.

Interplay of interactions, disorder, and topology in the Haldane-Hubbard model

Tian-Cheng Yi et al.

Summary: The ground-state phase diagram of the spinless Haldane-Hubbard model in the presence of quenched disorder was investigated. The interplay of disorder, interactions, and topology leads to a rich phase diagram and highlights the possibility of a disorder-driven trivial-to-topological transition under finite interactions. The topological Anderson insulator shown in noninteracting settings is stable with sufficiently small interactions before transitioning to a charge density wave Mott insulator.

Interplay of local order and topology in the extended Haldane-Hubbard model

Can Shao et al.

Summary: The study reveals the ground-state phase diagram of the spinful extended Haldane-Hubbard model on the honeycomb lattice, showing two types of insulators with finite local order parameters and a topologically nontrivial insulator with nonlocal order. It confirms that once a local order parameter is formed, the topological characteristics of the ground state associated with a finite Chern number are no longer present, resulting in a topologically trivial wave function.
