Multifilter photometry of Solar System objects from the SkyMapper Southern Survey

A. Sergeyev et al.

Summary: This study expands the sample of Solar System objects (SSOs), such as asteroids, comets, and Kuiper Belt objects, and provides photometric and compositional taxonomy data. The catalog is estimated to be 97% complete and has a purity of over 95% for known SSOs. This contributes significantly to our understanding of the origin and evolution of the Solar System.

A Search of the Full Six Years of the Dark Energy Survey for Outer Solar System Objects

Pedro H. Bernardinelli et al.

Summary: In this study, we conducted a search for outer solar system objects using the data from Dark Energy Survey (DES) over a period of 6 years. We identified 812 trans-Neptunian objects (TNOs), one Centaur, and one Oort cloud comet, with 458 objects reported for the first time. Our methodology involved reprocessing all images and optimizing the detection pipeline, leading to significant improvements in completeness gain and catalog production. Visual inspection and sub-threshold significance were used for verification of all objects.

Size Distribution of Small Jupiter Trojans in the L5 Swarm*

Kotomi Uehata et al.

Summary: This study presents an analysis of the size distribution of the trailing L-5 Jupiter Trojan swarm based on survey observations using the Hyper Suprime-Cam CCD camera. The results show that the size distributions of the L-4 and L-5 swarms are consistent with each other, suggesting a common origin from a primordial population.

C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein): The Nearly Spherical Cow of Comets

Pedro H. Bernardinelli et al.

Summary: Comet C/2014 UN271 (Bernardinelli-Bernstein), originating from the Oort cloud, is unique in its bright nucleus and distant heliocentric distance of 29 AU. Analysis of images and properties provide insights into its orbit and nature. With a diameter estimated to be around 150 km, strong evidence of brightness fluctuations, and activity rate matching sublimation equilibrium with the Sun.

Astrocladistics of the Jovian Trojan Swarms

Timothy R. Holt et al.

Summary: This study investigates the Jovian Trojan population using astrocladistics, identifying 48 clans that potentially share a common origin. The research results in the identification of high priority objects for additional observations and provides context for the forthcoming Lucy mission. The ability of astrocladistics to classify large and heterogeneous survey data sets into useful groupings for studies of the origins and evolution of our Solar system is demonstrated.

The Dark Energy Survey Data Release 2

T. M. C. Abbott et al.

Summary: The second public data release of the Dark Energy Survey, DES DR2, includes reduced single-epoch and coadded images, a source catalog and associated data products assembled from 6 years of DES science operations. Covering approximately 5000 deg(2) of the southern Galactic cap in five broad photometric bands, DES DR2 offers photometric uniformity and accuracy, with a median delivered point-spread function FWHM and internal astrometric precision. The dataset includes data from 691 million distinct astronomical objects accessible through various interfaces, making it the largest photometric data set to date at the achieved depth and photometric precision.

FOSSIL. I. The Spin Rate Limit of Jupiter Trojans

Chan-Kao Chang et al.

Summary: Rotation periods of 53 small Jupiter Trojans were derived using high-cadence lightcurves obtained from the FOSSIL survey. The study found a lower limit for the rotation period of JTs smaller than 10 km to be near 4 hours, compared to the previously reported 5 hours for larger JTs. The study also suggested a required bulk density of approximately 0.9 g/cm3 for JTs to withstand the spin rate limit, consistent with values derived from the binary JT system.
