Clinical significance of D-dimer levels in refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia

Xia Huang et al.

Summary: The serum D-dimer levels were significantly higher in patients with refractory Mycoplasma pneumoniae pneumonia, indicating a potential early predictor for refractory MPP and complications. D-dimer levels were found to be positively correlated with inflammatory markers and could help evaluate disease severity. Multivariate logistic regression analysis identified several risk factors for RMPP, with D-dimer having the highest predictive power.

High-Throughput Metagenomics for Identification of Pathogens in the Clinical Settings

Na Li et al.

Summary: Sequencing technology is increasingly being used in clinical laboratories, with metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) emerging as an attractive method for comprehensive detection and classification of microorganisms. However, there are still several challenges to be overcome in clinical practice.

Clinical Analysis of Metagenomic Next-Generation Sequencing Confirmed Chlamydia psittaci Pneumonia: A Case Series and Literature Review

Xin-Qi Teng et al.

Summary: Chlamydia psittaci infection is a zoonotic infectious disease mainly transmitted through inhalation of aerosols containing pathogenic bacteria from poultry secretions. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) provides a rapid and promising diagnostic tool for C. psittaci pneumonia. Clinical characteristics of patients diagnosed with mNGS included fever, cough, hypodynamia, hypoxemia, and dyspnea, with good outcomes from treatment with antibiotics like doxycycline or moxifloxacin. Further studies are needed to confirm mNGS as an effective tool for rapid diagnosis of C. psittaci pneumonia.

A case of chlamydia psittaci caused severe pneumonia and meningitis diagnosed by metagenome next-generation sequencing and clinical analysis: a case report and literature review

Yunfeng Shi et al.

Summary: Psittacosis, caused by Chlamydia psittaci, can lead to severe atypical pneumonia and meningitis. The use of metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) for etiologic diagnosis, along with targeted antimicrobial agents, can improve patient outcomes. Early consideration of psittacosis is important in patients with atypical pneumonia and symptoms of meningitis.

Application of metagenomic next-generation sequencing in the diagnosis of severe pneumonia caused by Chlamydia psittaci

Huan-Huan Wu et al.

Summary: Psittacosis is a zoonotic infectious disease caused by Chlamydia psittaci and commonly presents as community-acquired pneumonia in humans. Metagenomic next-generation sequencing (mNGS) has shown to be effective in diagnosing severe C. psittaci pneumonia and guiding timely antibiotic treatment, leading to favorable outcomes in most cases.

IL-10-/- Enhances DCs Immunity Against Chlamydia psittaci Infection via OX40L/NLRP3 and IDO/Treg Pathways

Qiang Li et al.

Summary: The study revealed that IL-10(-/-) mice and IL-10 inhibitor mice showed higher survival rates during C. psittaci infection, while mice with DC depletion had lower survival rates. IL-10(-/-) upregulated the function of deficient DCs by activating OX40-OX40L, T cells, and the NLPR3 inflammasome, and inhibiting IDO and regulatory T cells, leading to enhanced clearance of C. psittaci.

Severe Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia: clinical characteristics and risk factors

Shanshan Su et al.

Summary: This study compared the clinical characteristics of patients with severe and less severe forms of Chlamydia psittaci pneumonia, finding that severe patients were more likely to develop dyspnea and exhibit multi-lobar pneumonia. Abnormal levels of CK and BNP were identified as risk factors associated with severe C. psittaci pneumonia.
