A comprehensive review of supercapacitors: Properties, electrodes, electrolytes and thermal management systems based on phase change materials

Xiyue He et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors have gained extensive attention as an energy conversion and storage system due to their larger specific capacity, higher energy density, and longer cycle life. However, their performance is limited by electrode materials and electrolytes. Additionally, thermal safety issues have become increasingly prominent with their application in electric vehicles and renewable energy systems. Phase change material (PCM), with its simple structure, good cooling effect, and no additional energy consumption, has been widely used for thermal management in supercapacitors.

A review on challenges to remedies of MnO2 based transition-metal oxide, hydroxide, and layered double hydroxide composites for supercapacitor applications

Simran Kour et al.

Summary: Supercapacitors are emerging as energy storage devices with high capacitance, large power/energy ratio, excellent cyclic life, and fast charging capabilities, making them ideal for various applications. Manganese dioxide (MnO2) is a promising electrode material for supercapacitors due to its theoretical capacitance, environmental friendliness, and abundance, although its limited electrical conductivity and volume expansion are drawbacks. Composites of MnO2 with other materials, such as transition metal oxides and hydroxides, have been explored to enhance performance and overcome limitations in practical utility.
