Revisiting flat band superconductivity: Dependence on minimal quantum metric and band touchings

Kukka-Emilia Huhtinen et al.

Summary: A central result in superconductivity is that flat bands, though dispersionless, can still host a nonzero superfluid weight due to quantum geometry. We show that the derivation of the mean field superfluid weight in previous literature is incomplete, which can lead to severe quantitative and even qualitative errors. We derive the complete equations and demonstrate the relationship between the minimal quantum metric and the superfluid weight in isolated flat bands. We also provide an exact calculation of the Cooper pair mass in attractive Hubbard models and study the effect of closing the band gap between flat and dispersive bands.

Bound on resistivity in flat-band materials due to the quantum metric

Johannes Mitscherling et al.

Summary: The quantum metric, a central quantity in band theory, has been found to be related to the interband contribution to electrical conductivity, particularly in semimetals and systems with highly quenched bandwidth. In topological flat-band materials, there exists an upper bound for resistivity due to the common geometrical origin of quantum metric and Berry curvature. These effects can be further explored in highly tunable rhombohedral trilayer graphene flakes.

Imaging two-dimensional generalized Wigner crystals

Hongyuan Li et al.

Summary: The Wigner crystal has been a subject of fascination for condensed matter physicists for nearly 90 years and has recently been observed in moire superlattices. This study successfully demonstrates real-space imaging of 2D Wigner crystals in WSe2/WS2 heterostructures using a specially designed non-invasive STM spectroscopy technique.

Summary: Research shows that in graphene based compounds with flat bands and tunable gaps, there exists a robust supermetallic phase controlled by interband transitions, and it is insensitive to gap amplitudes and lattice characteristics.
