An INTEGRAL/SPI view of reticulum II: particle dark matter and primordial black holes limits in the MeV range

Thomas Siegert et al.

Summary: In this study, the nature of dark matter is investigated by observing the satellite galaxy Ret II of the Milky Way. The results show that Ret II is not detected in the gamma-ray band, and limits on the flux and annihilation cross section of dark matter are derived.

Strong constraints on primordial black hole dark matter from 16 years of INTEGRAL/SPI observations

J. Berteaud et al.

Summary: In this study, a new analysis of the diffuse soft gamma-ray emission towards the inner Galaxy was conducted using data from the spectrometer aboard the INTEGRAL satellite. The study implemented spatial template fitting and an improved instrumental background model. The contribution of primordial black holes as dark matter candidates was characterized, and the spatial distribution of their signal was included for the first time. No signal from primordial black holes was detected, and the strongest limit on primordial black hole dark matter was set for masses up to 4 x 10(17) g, approaching the asteroid mass range.

Future constraints on primordial black holes from XGIS-THESEUS

Diptimoy Ghosh et al.

Summary: This study explores the possibility of using the upcoming X/Gamma Ray Imaging Spectrometer (XGIS) telescope array to probe primordial black holes (PBHs). The results show that this mission can provide the strongest bound for nonrotating PBHs and even more stringent limits for maximally rotating PBHs.

Sensitivities on nonspinning and spinning primordial black hole dark matter with global 21-cm troughs

Akash Kumar Saha et al.

Summary: Detection of the global 21 cm signal arising from neutral hydrogen can revolutionize our understanding of the standard evolution of the Universe after recombination. In addition, it can also be an excellent probe of dark matter (DM). This work investigates the sensitivities on nonspinning and spinning primordial black holes (PBHs) arising from an EDGES-like measurement of the global 21 cm signal, and finds that the sensitivities will be competitive with those arising from other astrophysical observables. The study also derives projections on the PBH density from the absorption trough expected during the Dark Ages, showing that the near future unambiguous detection of the global 21 cm absorption troughs can be an excellent probe of PBH DM.

Limits on primordial black holes detectability with Isatis: a BlackHawk tool

Jeremy Auffinger

Summary: This study reexamines the feasibility of primordial black holes as candidates to explain dark matter, finding that the constraints on their abundance can vary by several orders of magnitude due to various factors, highlighting the need to reduce theoretical uncertainties. The study also suggests that the scenario of primordial black hole dark matter can only be constrained by other means in a specific mass range.

Constraints on primordial black holes

Bernard Carr et al.

Summary: In this article, constraints on the fraction of the Universe that may have gone into primordial black holes (PBHs) over a range of masses are updated. The discussion covers the reasons why PBHs smaller than a certain mass threshold are constrained and the various constraints on PBHs larger than that threshold.

Gas heating from spinning and non-spinning evaporating primordial black holes

Ranjan Laha et al.

Summary: Primordial black holes from the early Universe are considered as a viable dark matter candidate which can span a wide range of masses. Light PBHs with masses around 10^15 g contribute to dark matter and will efficiently evaporate through Hawking radiation, leading to observable signatures. Constraints from dwarf galaxy heating by evaporating PBHs are weaker than previously suggested, and limits on PBH DM abundance are stronger for evaporating spinning PBHs compared to non-spinning PBHs.

Isotropic x-ray bound on primordial black hole dark matter

J. Iguaz et al.

Summary: Revisiting the constraints on evaporating primordial black holes, it was found that neglected effects such as positron annihilation radiation and the Galactic contribution play a significant role in the isotropic flux. The study pushed the exclusion limit for nonspinning PBHs and showed that considering spin or an extended mass function can lead to tighter bounds. This research suggests that future missions targeting the isotropic flux could greatly improve sensitivity to PBHs as potential candidates for dark matter.
