DynaProg: Deterministic Dynamic Programming solver for finite horizon multi-stage decision problems

Federico Miretti et al.

Summary: DynaProg is an open-source MATLAB toolbox designed to solve multi-stage deterministic optimal decision problems using Dynamic Programming. It addresses the challenges of numerical implementation by providing a fast DP optimization engine and a simple interface, allowing researchers to easily explore the usage of DP in their fields. The toolbox also offers thorough documentation, step-by-step examples, and a class oriented design for easy deployment and extension.

Optimization-Driven Powertrain-Oriented Adaptive Cruise Control to Improve Energy Saving and Passenger Comfort

Pier Giuseppe Anselma

Summary: This paper proposes a multiobjective off-line optimal control approach for planning the speed of the following vehicle in adaptive cruise control driving, aiming to minimize energy consumption and enhance passenger comfort using dynamic programming. By considering different powertrain categories under various driving conditions, the flexibility and effectiveness of the proposed optimization-driven ACC approach are demonstrated.

Provably-Correct and Comfortable Adaptive Cruise Control

Matthias Althoff et al.

Summary: The study introduces a novel solution for adaptive cruise control that provides comfort in all driving conditions. By combining a nominal controller and a fail-safe controller, it ensures comfort even in emergency situations. Furthermore, the first user study conducted shows that the performance of the solution is rated as good or better than state-of-the-art solutions that do not ensure safety.
