Advanced ultrasound in the diagnosis of prostate cancer

Summary: The current diagnosis of prostate cancer is limited by the performance of existing tests, but a combination of multiparametric MRI and advanced ultrasound techniques like mp-US can improve diagnostic accuracy. While mp-US enhances PCa diagnosis, it is not accurate enough to replace mp-MRI, and a combination of the two methods provides complementary information that is crucial in the era of focal therapy.

Deep neural network for multiparametric ultrasound imaging of prostate cancer

Summary: This study introduces a deep neural network (DNN) to generate a multiparametric ultrasound (mpUS) volume of the prostate by combining different ultrasound imaging techniques. The DNN was trained using in vivo data to improve contrast-to-noise ratio and was shown to enhance lesion visibility in both phantom and in vivo datasets. These results suggest that deep learning could offer improved imaging guidance for prostate biopsies.
