This paper studies the motion characteristics and optimal U-turn position of left turn vehicles at signal-controlled intersections. It comprehensively analyzes the impact of left turn with U-turn on traffic flow from the aspects of driving efficiency and queue length.
This paper takes the signal-controlled intersection as the research object.On the basis of the previous traffic design method of left turn with U-turn, the motion characteristics of left turn vehicles in each stage of U-turn process are further studied.The optimal U-turn position is calculated by establishing a model for the distance between the intersection stop line and the central divider turning opening.This paper takes the average delay of vehicles at the intersection as the evaluation index, and comprehensively analyzes the impact of left turn with U-turn on the traffic flow of the road network from the two aspects of driving efficiency and queue length.Finally, taking a conventional cross-shaped intersection as an example, the far turn traffic design method of left turn vehicles is practiced.The application shows that the method has strong practicability and can better guide the relevant engineering and technical personnel to design traffic for turning away vehicles.
