This article proposes a triple-stage microwave protector for high power protection of radio frequency systems. The protector adopts a cascade structure, which improves its tolerance power and provides a fast response time. The simulation and experimental results demonstrate that the protector has low flat leakage and insertion loss, making it suitable for HPEM protection of L/S-band RF systems.
We propose a triple-stage microwave protector used for high power protection of radio frequency (RF) systems. The proposed protector adopts the cascade structure that can improve its tolerance power while providing a very fast response time. The simulation results show that the flat leakage of the protector is below 13 dBm under a high power electromagnetic pulse (HPEM) with a 63 dBm peak power and 1 mu s pulse width. The experimental results show that the insertion loss (IL) is less than 0.7 dB in the frequency range from 1.5 to 3 GHz. Because of its excellent performance, the protector can be widely used in the HPEM protection of L/S-band RF systems.
