In this letter, a reflective 1-bit coding metasurface is proposed for multi-beam switching. By controlling the two p-i-n diodes, 180 degrees phase difference is achieved. The presented metasurface has the advantages of low-cost, easy integration and switchable.
In this letter, a reflective 1-bit coding metasurface for multi-beam switching is proposed. Each element of the metasurface consists of two C-shaped patterns which embed two p-i-n diodes between them. By controlling the two diodes, 180 degrees phase difference is achieved based on the current reversal mechanism. The presented metasurface has a period array of 7x7 elements. And the total size is only 1.9 lambda(0)x1.9 lambda(0)x0.093 lambda(0) (lambda(0) represents the free-space wavelength at 8 GHz). Through dynamically programming the 1-bit code distributions of the metasurface, real-time multi-beam switching can be created. The simulated peak gain is 6.99 dBi. The presented metasurface has the advantages of low-cost, easy integration and switchable.
