Crystal Structure Control of Binary and Ternary Solid-Solution Alloy Nanoparticles with a Face-Centered Cubic or Hexagonal Close-Packed Phase

Quan Zhang et al.

Summary: The crystal structure plays a significant role in determining the physical and chemical properties of solids. This study demonstrates the successful synthesis of binary and ternary solid-solution alloy nanoparticles with well-controlled hexagonal close-packed and face-centered cubic phases. The catalytic performance of these alloy nanoparticles is found to be influenced by the crystal structure, with the hexagonal close-packed phase exhibiting superior electrocatalytic activity.

Synthesis of Sub-4 nm Rh-Based Intermetallic Catalyst Libraries by Sulfur-Anchoring Strategy

Peng Yin et al.

Summary: Atomically ordered intermetallic compounds (IMCs) have been synthesized with average particle sizes of < 4 nm by a general synthesis strategy based on the strong chemical interaction between metal and sulfur. These Rh-based IMC catalysts showed enhanced catalytic performance for nitroarene hydrogenation, highlighting the advantages of atomically order structure of IMCs for the chemoselective molecular recognition of nitro groups through geometric and electronic effects.

Infrared spectra of surface nitrates: Revision of the current opinions based on the case study of ceria

M. Y. Mihaylov et al.

Summary: The structures of nitrates formed on ceria surface were investigated using FTIR spectroscopy and DFT methods, with isotope labelling utilized to strengthen the conclusions. It was found that monodentate nitrates were actually tridentate nitrates with C-2v symmetry, and bidentate nitrates typically bridge and chelate cerium cations. The spectral differences between these species are due to binding geometry and symmetry reduction.

Selection Criteria for Metal Precursors and Solvents for Targeted Synthesis of Metallic Nanostructures Via Kinetic Control in the Polyol Process

Hisashi Kaneko et al.

Summary: The development of a technology for the synthesis of monometallic or multimetallic nanoparticles is crucial for preparing novel magnetic, optical, and catalytic functional materials. The polyol process is a safe and scalable method for preparing metal nanoparticles with controlled sizes and shapes. However, the criteria for selecting metal salt and solvent types that determine the kinetics of reduction reaction affecting particle morphology need further investigation.
