Giardia duodenalis in patients with diarrhea and various animals in northeastern China: prevalence and multilocus genetic characterization

Yanchen Wu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and genetic characterization of Giardia duodenalis in patients with diarrhea and animals in northeastern China. The results showed a high prevalence of G. duodenalis in both human patients and animals, with genetic heterogeneity observed. Further research is needed to assess the epidemiological role of animals in the transmission of human giardiasis.

Molecular Detection and Characterization of Giardia duodenalis in Farmed Pigs in Three Provinces of Southern China

Yang Zou et al.

Summary: This study investigated the prevalence and assemblages of G. duodenalis infection in pigs in southern China. The results showed a 5.3% prevalence rate, with three risk factors associated with infection. Three assemblages of G. duodenalis were identified, with assemblage E being the dominant type. The study suggests that farmed pigs may pose a potential threat to public health.

First report of Giardia lamblia in different animals in the United Arab Emirates

A. ElBakri et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to detect and characterize Giardia lamblia in animals in the UAE. Thirty samples (34.5%) tested positive for G. lamblia, but neither genotype A nor B were detected during genotyping. Further investigations with larger sample size, including both human and animal samples, are needed to gain a more detailed understanding of the zoonotic transmission of this parasite.
