An Exact Algorithm to Detect the Percolation Transition in Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Cross-Linking Polymer Networks

Mattia Livraghi et al.

Summary: Periodic molecular dynamics simulations are used for studying complex polymeric materials, such as the curing reaction of covalently cross-linked polymers. A connection between percolation theory and gel-point detection is delineated, with an algorithm provided for detecting percolation onset during polymer cross-linking. The algorithm is applied to simulations of an epoxy resin undergoing curing with an amine hardener, and compared with indirect gel point measurements.
