TMT-based quantitative proteomic analysis of postharvest Coprinus comatus fruiting body during storage

Hang Qu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the proteome responses of Coprinus comatus fruiting body during postharvest storage using TMT-based quantitative proteomic technique. The differential abundance of proteins during storage mainly involved metabolic and cellular processes, with catalytic activity and binding as predominant molecular functions. Cellular components mainly included cell and cell part. Pathway analysis showed involvement of ribosome, glycolysis, citrate cycle, and glutamate metabolism, as well as AMPK and FOXO signaling pathways in the postharvest physiology of mushrooms.

Characterization and anti-diabetic nephropathic ability of mycelium polysaccharides from Coprinus comatus

Zheng Gao et al.

Summary: The study found that CMP improved insulin resistance and energy metabolism, suppressed kidney dysfunction, relieved renal oxidative stress and inflammation in diabetic nephropathic mice. Western blot results suggested CMP reversed renal injury by modulating the PTEN/PI3K/Akt and Wnt-1/beta-catenin pathways. The typical characterizations of CMP with galactose major monosaccharide-compositions and proper molecular weight possibly contributed to its anti-diabetic nephropathic effects.

Involvement of energy metabolism and amino acid metabolism in quality attributes of postharvest Pleurotus eryngii treated with a novel phase change material

Dong Li et al.

Summary: The novel water-based phase change material showed better performance in maintaining low-temperature conditions during postharvest storage of Pleurotus eryngii, alleviated deterioration of visual appearance, improved amino acid accumulation, delayed senescence, enhanced antioxidant capacity, and maintained sufficient energy supply, indicating its potential as a substitute for ice in cold chain transportation.

Postharvest quality and antioxidant activity extension of strawberry fruit using allyl isothiocyanate encapsulated by electrospun zein ultrafine fibers

Rosana Colussi et al.

Summary: This study found that encapsulating low concentrations of AITC in zein fiber holds promise for maintaining the quality of strawberries. The efficiency of AITC encapsulation in zein fiber is higher when lower concentrations (4%) are used. However, increasing AITC concentration saturates the medium and reduces fruit quality.

Coating shiitake mushrooms (Lentinus edodes) with a polysaccharide from Oudemansiella radicata improves product quality and flavor during postharvest storage

Qin Liu et al.

Summary: The study demonstrated that coating shiitake mushrooms with ORWP improved key quality characteristics during storage, including reduced weight loss, improved firmness, reduced browning, and improved physical microstructure. ORWP-coated mushrooms also had higher contents of nutritional and cell wall compounds compared to control samples. Additionally, ORWP coatings resulted in reduced activities of certain enzymes and higher concentrations of certain key amino acids, nucleotides, and compounds.

Ultrastructural and antimicrobial impacts of allyl isothiocyanate incorporated in cellulose, β-cyclodextrin, and carbon nanotubes nanocomposites

Clara Suprani Marques et al.

Summary: This study investigated the antimicrobial effects of allyl isothiocyanate (AIT), complexed or not with beta-cyclodextrin (beta CD), and carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in cellulose films against Salmonella choleraesuis and Listeria innocua. The presence of inclusion complex and CNTs resulted in structural changes in films, and increased retention of the antimicrobial agent for controlled diffusion. However, caution is necessary to prevent detrimental changes in the films' surface when considering the use of beta CD inclusion complexes.
