Contemporary history: progress and resilience of occupational therapy in the Philippines (2004-2020)

Summary: The purpose of this study is to curate key events in the contemporary history of the occupational therapy profession in the Philippines. Using a historiography methodology and an interpretative approach, the study provides a richer understanding of these events through chronology and subsequent interpretations. The results narrate five story plots regarding occupational therapy in the Philippines from 2004 to 2020, highlighting the progress and resilience of the profession and offering recommendations for future development.

Success in work-related placement programs is not equated with meaningful employment, emphasizing the potential risks of solely measuring work by formal employment.
