Self-healing and shape-memory epoxy thermosets based on dynamic diselenide bonds

Xiaohong Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, a high-strength epoxy resin EP-SeSe with self-healing and shape memory properties was designed, which exhibited excellent shape memory performance, self-healing performance, high mechanical strength, and exceptional thermal stability. Through the [2 + 1] radical-mediated mechanism of the dynamic diselenide bonds, EP-SeSe displayed fast stress relaxation, self-healing, remodeling, and weldability above the glass transition temperature. This study provided a facile method for constructing robust epoxy resins with self-healing and shape memory properties, with great potential applications.

Polydopamine Nanoparticle-Reinforced Near-Infrared Light-Triggered Shape Memory Polycaprolactone-Polydopamine Polyurethane for Biomedical Implant Applications

Suyang Dai et al.

Summary: This study developed a new type of near-infrared light-triggered shape memory polyurethane using polydopamine nanoparticles. The polyurethane showed excellent mechanical properties and rapid shape recovery under near-infrared light due to the dispersion of polydopamine nanoparticles and the photothermal effect. In vitro and in vivo tests demonstrated the biocompatibility and shape memory performance of the polyurethane under low-intensity near-infrared light. This material has potential for biomedical implant applications.

Fullerene Rosette: Two-Dimensional Interactive Nanoarchitectonics and Selective Vapor Sensing

Guoping Chen et al.

Summary: The self-assembly of fullerenes with melamine/ethylenediamine components results in the formation of novel fullerene assemblies called fullerene rosettes. These rosettes are made up of micron-sized two-dimensional, amorphous shape-regular objects. The interaction and/or covalent bonding between the melamine/ethylenediamine components and fullerenes in the rosettes were confirmed through spectroscopic and thermal analysis. The fullerene rosettes, which consist of low crystallinity bilayer/monolayer assemblies of hybridized fullerenes, showed promise as sensors for selective detection of formic acid.
