Synthesis of Biobased Soft-Packaging Polyesters from 2,5 Thiophenedicarboxylic Acid

William Mawuko Kodzo Siegu et al.

Summary: The demand for light-packaging materials for food and beverages is increasing globally, particularly in developing countries. In this study, a series of eco-friendly polyesters were successfully synthesized with tunable glass transition temperature, excellent mechanical and thermal properties, transparency, and oxygen barrier properties suitable for most packaging applications.

Synthesis and properties of high performance aromatic thermotropic liquid crystal copolyesters based on naphthalene ring structure

Peng Wei et al.

Summary: By using a one pot melt polymerization method, thermotropic liquid crystal polymers (TLCP) with strong molecular interaction were prepared using a large amount of naphthalene monomers. The simulation results showed that the naphthalene TLCPs had less chain mobility and stronger molecular interactions, resulting in a linear rigid chain conformation and superior properties.

On the influence of thermal annealing on molecular relaxations and structure in thermotropic liquid crystalline polymer

Angel Romo-Uribe et al.

Summary: The influence of thermal annealing on mechanical relaxations and microstructure of a high performance thermotropic copolyester was investigated. Thermal annealing resulted in molecular rearrangements, improved elastic modulus and mechanical failure temperature, induced phase transformation and increased crystallinity, and affected the correlation of repeat unit matching.

Influences of reactive compatibilization on the structure and physical properties of blends based on thermotropic liquid crystalline polyester and poly(1,4-cyclohexylenedimethylene terephthalate)

Eun-Ji Choi et al.

Summary: Reactive compatibilization using titanium butoxide (TBT) was found to be the most effective method for improving the morphology and physical properties of TLCP/PCT blends. FT-IR spectroscopic analysis confirmed copolyester formation through catalyst-induced transesterification. Despite the decrease in crystallization transition temperatures, the residue at 800 degrees C increased for blends with higher TBT loadings, indicating improved thermal stability. The shear moduli and complex viscosity of compatibilized TLCP/LCP blends were higher than neat TLCP and PCT, showing enhanced mechanical properties after reactive compatibilization.

Preparation of poly(thiophene-alt-pyrrole) bearing chiral LC group

Akiko Yatsu et al.

Summary: Poly(thiophene-alt-pyrrole bearing mesogen) was prepared via Migita-Kosugi-Stille coupling polycondensation with Pd(0) complex catalyst, showing liquid crystallinity and light emission function. Mechanical orientation results in LC domain aligned film with band structure, while chiral mesogenic side chain induces main chain helicity.

Poly(propylene naphthalate-co-propylene 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate)s derived from bio-based 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDCA): Synthesis and properties

Guoqiang Wang et al.

Summary: The properties of poly(propylene naphthalate-co-propylene 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylate)s copolyesters were fine-tuned by incorporating 2,5-thiophenedicarboxylic acid (TDCA), resulting in changes in glass transition temperature and tensile strength. PPTF exhibited the lowest glass transition temperature and highest tensile strength, while PPN, PPNTF23, PPNTF50, and PPNTF76 showed superior thermal stability and tensile strength.
