A novel Monte Carlo simulation on gas flow in fractal shale reservoir

Jinghua Yang et al.

Summary: This study predicts the rarefied gas flow through shale reservoir using a fractal probability law and Monte Carlo technique, showing that the apparent gas permeability (AGP) increases with the increment of Knudsen number. Increased pore fractal dimension reduces AGP and intrinsic permeability, but enhances the permeability ratio.

Theoretical studies of methane adsorption on Silica-Kaolinite interface for shale reservoir application

Abdulmujeeb T. Onawole et al.

Summary: Shale gas, primarily methane, is currently being developed to meet global energy demands. Using Density Functional Theory (DFT) and Molecular Dynamics (MD) techniques, researchers studied methane transport in shale pores and found that methane predominantly undergoes physisorption on the interface, with stronger adsorption on the kaolinite region.

Macropores generation in the domanic formation shales: Insights from pyrolysis experiments

Dina Gafurova et al.

Summary: The study on the Domanic shale rocks in the South-Tatarian arch of the Volga-Ural oil and gas basin in Russia revealed that the structural changes induced by pyrolysis are influenced by the initial rock matrix structure and organic matter content. Different pore types were formed as a result of thermal maturation, with organic matter formation and pore space transformation processes being key factors in understanding oil and gas generation mechanisms and determining optimal development methods.

Release of methane from nanochannels through displacement using CO2

Xu Cheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the release of methane in quartz nanochannels using carbon dioxide displacement was investigated through molecular dynamics simulations and theoretical analysis. The results showed that both the pressure of CO2 and the size of the channels influenced the release percentage of methane, which increased with higher CO2 pressure and larger channel diameter. Theoretical predictions based on the kinetic energy of methane and energy barriers inside the channels were in good agreement with the MD simulations.
