Hydrogen production via using excess electric energy of an off-grid hybrid solar/wind system based on a novel performance indicator

Abdulrahman S. Al-Buraiki et al.

Summary: The study aims to assess the potential of renewable energy in Saudi Arabia, specifically in terms of electricity and hydrogen production. By developing and optimizing a hybrid renewable energy system, the study finds that the system can meet the electricity demand of a typical residential house while providing hydrogen fuel for a hydrogen driven vehicle. Additionally, the system contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Techno-Economic Analysis of Grid-Connected Hybrid Renewable Energy System for Remote Areas Electrification Using Homer Pro

Mamoon Ur Rashid et al.

Summary: Pakistan has been experiencing a severe shortage of electricity for the past two decades, especially in remote areas like Balochistan. In order to address this issue, this research study investigates the potential of renewable energy, specifically wind and solar, in remote areas of Balochistan and proposes a technical and economical hybrid system. By analyzing the selected locations and using simulation and optimization, the most feasible and economic solution is determined based on factors such as net present cost, cost of electricity, initial cost, and operating cost.

China's decarbonization and energy security plans will reduce seaborne coal imports: Results from an installation-level model

Jorrit Gosens et al.

Summary: China aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions and reduce coal consumption, while improving energy security through increased domestic production and transport infrastructure. The impact on seaborne coal imports is stronger than on domestic supply. Expanded rail and port capacities, as well as the availability of cheap and high-quality coking coal from Mongolia, will further affect coal imports.

Optimal sizing of grid-connected photovoltaic system for a large commercial load in Saudi Arabia

Mustafa M. A. Seedahmed et al.

Summary: Energy mix optimization is crucial for assessing renewable energy system efficacy. This study focuses on the optimal sizing of grid-connected photovoltaic systems and its benefits in reducing conventional power plant energy and harmful emissions. The research presents a case study in Makkah, Saudi Arabia, where a commercial load is connected to an optimally designed PV system with battery storage. The results demonstrate that considering various factors, such as cost of energy, emissions, and renewable penetration ratio, can lead to the optimal capacity of PV, converter, and battery elements, resulting in reduced costs and emissions.
