Study of a Hydrophilic Healing-Promoting Porcine Acellular Dermal Matrix

Zhuang Ding et al.

Summary: This study investigated the cross-linking of oxidized sodium hyaluronate (OSH) with porcine acellular dermal matrix (pADM) to enhance its hydrophilic and moisturizing properties. The results showed that OSH-pADM maintained the natural collagen structure and microporous structure of pADM, with increasing oxidation degree leading to increased hydrophilicity and moisture retention capacities. The degradation resistance of OSH-pADM also increased with increasing oxidation degree, and it exhibited acceptable cytotoxicity. In vivo experiments demonstrated that OSH-pADM had a significant ability to promote wound healing.

Hyaluronan Hydrogels: Rheology and Stability in Relation to the Type/Level of Biopolymer Chemical Modification

Annalisa La Gatta et al.

Summary: This study investigated the rheological properties and stability of four available HA-BDDE hydrogels and their relationship to the type and degree of HA structural modification. The results showed that most of the HA in the gels was branched, and there was no correlation between the conventionally measured rheological properties and the chemical data. The hydration process and the amount of crosslinked HA significantly affected the rheology of the gels. These findings contribute to a better understanding of these gels and provide valuable information for their design and characterization.

A freeze-thaw PVA hydrogel loaded with guava leaf extract: physical and antibacterial properties

William Xaveriano Waresindo et al.

Summary: The study successfully fabricated a polyvinyl alcohol hydrogel containing guava leaf extract, adjusting its physical properties by varying the extract concentration. Addition of the extract decreased cross-linking and increased pore size of the hydrogel, leading to increased swelling and decreased mechanical strength. Increasing extract concentration widened absorbance peaks in FTIR, indicating hydrogen bond formation, and transformed the crystalline phase into an amorphous phase based on XRD spectra. The PVA/GLE hydrogel showed increased antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
