Convolutional neural network for automatic maxillary sinus segmentation on cone-beam computed tomographic images

Nermin Morgan et al.

Summary: This study developed and validated a novel automated CNN-based methodology for the segmentation of maxillary sinus using CBCT images. The proposed method significantly reduced the segmentation time and achieved high accuracy and consistency. It enables accurate generation of 3D models for diagnosis and virtual treatment planning.

Three-dimensional facial hard tissue symmetry in a healthy Caucasian population group: a systematic review

Nermin Morgan et al.

Summary: The study aimed to quantify the symmetry of facial hard tissue structures in a normal Caucasian population using three-dimensional radiographic imaging modalities. A total of 8811 studies were initially identified, with 10 studies meeting the inclusion criteria. The qualitative analysis showed significant variability in the methodologies used for symmetry quantification, but overall relative symmetry was found within a range of 1 mm without significant differences between left and right sides.

Layered deep learning for automatic mandibular segmentation in cone-beam computed tomography

Pieter-Jan Verhelst et al.

Summary: The research developed and validated a layered deep learning algorithm that automatically creates 3D surface models of the human mandible from CBCT imaging, showing efficient and accurate results. The AI and RAI segmentation methods demonstrated better consistency than SA, with similar accuracy when benchmarked against the clinical standard.

Automatic segmentation of the pharyngeal airway space with convolutional neural network

Sohaib Shujaat et al.

Summary: The study proposed and investigated a 3D convolutional neural network model for automatic segmentation of the pharyngeal airway space. The CNN model showed high precision and recall in identifying the segmented region, with Newtom VGi evo CBCT device outperforming others. This method provides an accurate and time-efficient way to diagnose and treat upper airway problems.
