Summary: A highly efficient single atom Fe-dispersed catalyst with Fe-N-4 coordination structure was synthesized for peroxymonosulfate (PMS) activation and sulfamethoxazole (SMX) degradation. The catalyst showed excellent performance in PMS activation and SMX removal, with a high turnover efficiency and good stability. Identification of reaction active species and proposed degradation mechanism for SMX provide valuable insights for sulfate radical-based advanced oxidation processes.

Efficient photocatalytic degradation of sulfasalazine and reduction of hexavalent chromium over robust In2S3/Nd2O3 heterojunction under visible light

Summary: In this study, a novel visible light driven heterojunction photocatalyst of In2S3/xNd(2)O(3) nano-composites was designed and synthesized via a simple two-step process. The prepared materials exhibited efficient photocatalytic activity for the double role photooxidation of sulfasalazine and photoreduction of Cr(VI) under visible light illumination. The enhanced efficiency was attributed to the proper band alignment and intimate interfacial contact in the In2S3/10 wt% Nd2O3 p-n heterojunction, which facilitated better charge separation and transfer. The photocatalyst also showed superior photostability and recyclability.

The excellent enhancement activity of BiW@CN is attributed to the formation of an S-scheme heterojunction, promoting spatial charge separation and endowing reduction power to photogenerated electrons. This research provides a new platform for efficient 2D/2D S-scheme heterojunctions for environmental water pollution treatments.

Fabrication of novel and noble-metal-free MoP/In2S3 Schottky heterojunction photocatalyst with efficient charge separation for enhanced photocatalytic H2 evolution under visible light

MoP also acted as active sites for surface proton reduction, contributing to the enhanced photocatalytic performance.

SnS2-In2S3 p-n heterostructures with enhanced Cr6+ reduction under visible-light irradiation

Summary: The one-pot hydrothermal synthesis of SnS2-In2S3 p-n heterostructures enhances the photocatalytic reduction of Cr6+ to Cr3+. The p-n junction formed by the conduction bands of In2S3 and SnS2 improves the separation and transport of photogenerated charges, accelerating electron transport and changing the pathway of photocatalytic process towards Cr6+ reduction. The SnS2-In2S3 heterojunction photocatalyst shows significantly higher efficiency than pure In2S3 and SnS2 photocatalysts under visible light, and can achieve Cr6+ removal in a weak alkaline solution, overcoming the challenge of Cr6+ reduction in an alkaline environment.

Rational design of a novel LaFeO3/g-C3N4/BiFeO3 double Z-scheme structure: Photocatalytic performance for antibiotic degradation and mechanistic insight

Hierarchical CoTiO3 microrods on Ti3C2Tx MXene heterostructure as an efficient sonocatalyst for bisphenol A degradation

Summary: CoTiO3 microrods decorated on MXene nanosheets (CoT@MX) were synthesized via liquid self-assembly method for BPA degradation, displaying superior sonocatalytic activity with a removal efficiency of 96.9%. MXene nanosheets provided new surface-active sites facilitating the interaction between catalyst and BPA pollutant molecules, with (OH)· and O2· contributing to BPA degradation. The feasible sonocatalytic reaction mechanism of CoT@MX was elucidated.

Catalytic oxidation of naproxen in cobalt spinel ferrite decorated Ti3C2Tx MXene activated persulfate system: Mechanisms and pathways

Summary: Naproxen (NPX) is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug that can have detrimental effects on human and ecosystem health at certain concentrations in aqueous environments. A nanocatalyst composed of MXene nanosheets and CoFe2O4 nanoparticles was successfully fabricated for the degradation of NPX, with high removal efficiency achieved. Radical and nonradical pathways were found to be involved in the catalytic degradation process, indicating the promising potential of CoFe2O4@MXene/PS system for treating water polluted with NPX.

Construction of a ternary Z-scheme In2S3@Au@P3HT photocatalyst for the degradation of phenolic pollutants under visible light

Summary: A ternary nanoflower, In2S3@Au@P3HT, doped with gold nanoparticles and covered with a nanolayer P3HT, was prepared for efficient photocatalytic degradation of the organic pollutant phenol. The synergistic benefits of the gold nanoparticles and P3HT layer contribute to the high performance of the ternary Z-type heterojunction photocatalyst, showing rapid degradation of phenol in water remediation applications. This new strategy for preparing the highly-efficient photocatalyst provides potential for further environmental remediation solutions.
