Effects of a surface prereacted glass-ionomer filler coating material on biofilm formation and inhibition of dentin demineralization

Shiori Yamamoto et al.

Summary: The study found that the surface roughness of dentin specimens in the S-PRG group was significantly higher compared to the nonS-PRG and control group. The S-PRG group showed prevention of biofilm formation and bacterial adhesion on the dentin surface, as well as the highest acid-resistance ability without surface loss. The application of S-PRG barrier coat on dentin surfaces can inhibit biofilm formation and protect against demineralization.

Chemical and mechanical resistance of novel experimental hybrid coatings on dentin permeability

Tatiane Alexandre Oliveira et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effectiveness of novel hybrid coatings in reducing dentin permeability and their resistance to erosive and abrasive challenges. The experimental coatings showed significant reduction in dentin permeability post-treatment and post-erosion, with the advantage of forming thin, colorless films ideal for treating dentin hypersensitivity. Post-abrasion, there was no significant difference among the groups, indicating their ability to withstand abrasive challenges.

Long-Term Effectiveness of Treating Dentin Hypersensitivity with Bifluorid 10 and Futurabond U: A Split-Mouth Randomized Double-Blind Clinical Trial

Marta Mazur et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the clinical efficacy of fluoride varnish and bonding resin in treating dentin hypersensitivity in adults, finding that both treatments were effective in reducing pain intensity, with Bifluorid 10 being more efficient in long-term pain reduction. Patient age had a significant negative influence on pain reduction, while patient gender and BEWE of the tooth had insignificant impact on treatment efficacy.

Analysis of permeability and biological properties of dentin treated with experimental bioactive glasses

Bruna de Oliveira Reis et al.

Summary: The study aimed to evaluate the obliterating capability and biological performance of desensitizing agents, concluding that Bioglass-based desensitizers showed similar effects to commercially available products in terms of permeability and dentin biological properties. The research suggests a need for novel desensitizing agents that can effectively and long-lastingly obliterate dentinal tubules to address the clinical need for dentin sensitivity treatment.

Obliterating potential of active products for dentin hypersensitivity treatment under an erosive challenge

Luciana Favaro Francisconi-dos-Rios et al.

Summary: The study compared the effects of 5 desensitizing agents on the hydraulic conductance of dentin and found that products containing potassium oxalate were the most effective in reducing dentin hydraulic conductance and maintaining high resistance after an erosive challenge. Materials with potassium oxalate or hydroxyapatite crystals seemed to effectively occlude dentin tubules after an erosive challenge according to Laser Scanning Confocal Microscope analysis.

Influence of Er,Cr:YSGG laser on root dentin submitted to erosive and/or abrasive challenges

Gabriella Rodovalho Paiva et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of Er,Cr:YSGG laser and 5% fluoride varnish on the surface roughness and volume loss of bovine root dentin subjected to erosive and/or abrasive wear. The results showed that the combined treatment of laser and varnish effectively reduced roughness and volume loss, suggesting potential for controlling issues related to non-carious lesions. Compared to the control group, the experimental groups had lower roughness and volume loss, indicating the effectiveness of the new treatment methods in improving dentin resistance and limiting problems associated with non-carious lesions.
