Phase-transition-induced magneto-elastic coupling and negative thermal expansion in (Hf,Ta)Fe1.98 Laves phase

Shuai Li et al.

Summary: The study on the effects of Ta substitution on phase transition in Hf1-xTaxFe1.98 alloys with kagome-type lattice revealed that increased Ta substitution reduces the metamagnetic transition temperature and changes the nature of the phase transition. Additionally, there is an enhancement in magnetic entropy change and maximized saturation magnetostriction near the transition temperature, suggesting strong magneto-elastic coupling and potential for triggering negative thermal expansion.

Large Low-Field Reversible Magnetocaloric Effect in Itinerant-Electron Hf1-xTaxFe2 Alloys

Zhao Song et al.

Summary: In this study, a large magnetocaloric effect was demonstrated in Hf1-xTaxFe2 alloys, where the nature of the AFM to FM transition gradually changed from second-order to first-order with an increase in Ta content. This led to significant reversible adiabatic temperature change values in alloys with first-order magnetoelastic transition.

Microstructures and mechanical properties of Ta-Nb-Zr-Ti-Al refractory high entropy alloys with varying Ta/Ti ratios

Summary: This study investigates the compositional dependence of microstructures and mechanical properties in refractory high entropy alloys. Different compositions result in significant microstructure and mechanical property changes, demonstrating the tunability of strength-ductility balance in this RHEA system.
