Placental diabesity: placental VEGF and CD31 expression according to pregestational BMI and gestational weight gain in women with gestational diabetes

Angelo Sirico et al.

Summary: The study investigated the placental expression of VEGF and CD31 in pregnancies complicated by gestational diabetes (GDM) and the influence of pregestational BMI and gestational weight gain (GWG) on this expression. The results showed that GDM pregnancies are characterized by increased placental expression of VEGF and CD31, and the expression of these markers is associated with maternal increased pregestational BMI and GWG.

Summary: This study found that diabetes mellitus and overweight or obesity are risk factors for COVID-19 in pregnancy, and gestational diabetes mellitus is associated with the disease, especially among women requiring insulin. Therefore, women with these comorbidities should be vaccinated.

Relative importance of metabolic syndrome components for developing gestational diabetes

Jessica A. Grieger et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the contributions of metabolic syndrome and known risk factors for GDM to the risk of GDM, finding that circulating triglycerides are the most important factor influencing GDM risk, with the highest independent contribution to GDM, highlighting the importance of focusing on lowering triglycerides as a key risk factor for GDM.

Sonographic measurement of the fetal pancreas in women with gestational diabetes

Yinon Gilboa et al.

Summary: Maternal glycemic state is positively correlated with fetal insulin secretion, and treatment during pregnancy can inhibit this effect to some extent. The study found that fetal pancreas size in treated mothers with gestational diabetes is significantly correlated with abdominal circumference, estimated fetal weight, and gestational age.

Gestational Diabetes Mellitus Pharmacological Prevention and Treatment

Chatzakis Christos et al.

Summary: Gestational diabetes mellitus is a common medical complication of pregnancy, with several risk factors and interventions tested for prevention. Insulin administration is preferred for treating hyperglycemia in GDM, while metformin and glyburide are not regarded as first-line agents.

Second-trimester and third-trimester maternal lipid profiles significantly correlated to LGA and macrosomia

Fangfang Xi et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the association between lipid profiles in the second and third trimesters of pregnancy and fetal birth weight. The findings suggest that high triglyceride and low high-density lipoprotein levels during the third trimester may increase the risk of large-for-gestational-age infants and macrosomia. Strategies to lower triglyceride levels in women of reproductive age may help reduce the incidence of large-for-gestational-age infants and macrosomia in the future.

First pregnancy risk factors and future gestational diabetes mellitus

Israel Yoles et al.

Summary: First pregnancy without GDM complicated by hypertensive disorders, perinatal mortality, maternal obesity, and fetal macrosomia was associated with an increased risk for GDM in the subsequent pregnancy. Women with these complications may benefit from early detection of GDM in their subsequent pregnancy.

Tarek M. Mostafa et al.

Summary: This study found elevated levels of IL-34 and visfatin, and decreased levels of irisin and IRAPe in patients with T2DM, with these markers being associated with insulin resistance. IL-34 was positively correlated with visfatin, and negatively correlated with irisin and IRAPe.

Glycated albumin as biomarker: Evidence and its outcomes

Takuji Kohzuma et al.

Summary: This review discusses the importance of glycemic control markers in the diagnosis and treatment of diabetes, focusing on the limitations of Hemoglobin A1c (A1C) and introducing glycated albumin (GA) as a complementary indicator. The article aims to provide useful information for the effective usage of GA and other glycemic control markers, outlining both their similarities and differences.

A clinical diabetes risk prediction model for prediabetic women with prior gestational diabetes

Bernice Man et al.

Summary: A clinical prediction model was developed for personalized treatment decisions for prediabetes in women with a history of gestational diabetes mellitus. The study found that higher levels of fasting glucose and hemoglobin A1C were associated with an increased risk of developing diabetes, and metformin was more effective for individuals with higher BMI.

Fernando Chimela Chume et al.

Summary: This study aimed to assess the clinical utility of glycated albumin (GA) in diagnosing gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM) in 149 Brazilian women. The results showed that GA at 24-28 weeks of gestation did not have the ability to accurately discriminate between those with and without GDM.
