Valence non-Lewis density as an approach to describe and measure aromaticity of organic and inorganic molecules

Mohammad Manassir et al.

Summary: Based on the natural bond orbital (NBO) theory, the valence non-Lewis density (VNLD) index, which is calculated from the linear combination of atomic orbital-molecular orbitals, serves as a practical approach to describe and measure aromaticity in molecules. The VNLD index is based on the interaction between filled and vacant orbitals, providing a general mechanism for quantal energy lowering, and is particularly effective in predicting aromaticity in rings with pi-sextet electrons.

Insight into immobilization efficiency of Lipase enzyme as a biocatalyst on the graphene oxide for adsorption of Azo dyes from industrial wastewater effluent

Lim Wen Yao et al.

Summary: Enzyme immobilization improves stability, reusability, and removal efficiency of dyes. In this study, Lipase enzyme was immobilized on Graphene Oxide (GO) for the removal of Azo dyes from industrial wastewater. The immobilization efficiency and enzyme activity were investigated by varying Lipase concentration, pH, and temperature. The results showed that the highest immobilization efficiency and enzyme activity were achieved at an optimum Lipase concentration of 6 mg/mL, pH 8.0, and temperature of 40 degrees C. The immobilized Lipase demonstrated good dye removal performance, with a maximum removal efficiency of 89.47% at 240 min contact time and 5 mg/L initial dye concentration. Furthermore, the immobilized Lipase could be reused for up to four cycles. This study highlights the significant impact of immobilized Lipase on GO in various industrial sectors.

High-order harmonics from backscattering of delocalized electrons

Chuan Yu et al.

Summary: It is demonstrated that electron backscattering can enhance high-order-harmonic generation in periodic systems with broken translational symmetry. By deriving a finite chain of atoms as a paradigm, the harmonic cutoff caused by electrons backscattered from the edges of the chain is explored, and it is shown that there is a maximum in the harmonic yield when the quiver amplitude of the driven electrons is twice the chain length. To gain an intuitive understanding of the quantum results, a refined semiclassical trajectory model with finite electron-hole separation after tunneling is developed. It is also demonstrated that the same tunnel exit applies to interband harmonics in conventional periodic solid-state systems.

Electronic structure investigation of the stability, reactivity, NBO analysis, thermodynamics, and the nature of the interactions in methyl-substituted imidazolium-based ionic liquids

John A. Agwupuye et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the stability, reactivity, and electronic interactions of methyl-substituted imidazolium-based ionic liquids. Through a high-level quantum study, it was found that these ILs are stabilized through hydrogen bonds formed between the cation-anion pairs. [MMMIM][HSO4] was identified as the most stable IL among the ones considered, with a higher energy gap between HOMO and LUMO. The addition of anions to cation led to a reduction in absorption maxima and a shift in absorption wavelength of the ILs.
