Summary: Opioid-related harms disproportionately affect rural communities, and recent policy changes have called for reductions in opioid prescribing and safe alternatives to opioids. Telehealth services can help bring evidence-based chronic pain care to rural and underserved populations. The VA Puget Sound Pain Telehealth pilot program provided pain education, cognitive-behavioral therapy, opioid-safety education, and acupuncture education to patients in rural areas.
