Advances in Plant Polysaccharides as Antiaging Agents: Effects and Signaling Mechanisms

Rou Deng et al.

Summary: Aging refers to gradual physiological changes that lead to senescence and a decline in biological functions, ultimately resulting in death. Plant polysaccharides have been found to delay the aging process by scavenging free radicals, increasing telomerase activity, regulating apoptosis, enhancing immunity, inhibiting glycosylation, improving mitochondrial function, regulating gene expression, activating autophagy, and modulating gut microbiota through various signaling pathways.

The role of plant-derived natural antioxidants in reduction of oxidative stress

Behnaz Akbari et al.

Summary: Free radicals are harmful molecules produced during cell metabolism and their levels can be increased by exposure to UV radiation and environmental pollutants. They can cause damage to membranes, enzymes, and DNA, leading to various diseases. Increasing consumption of fruits and vegetables with high antioxidant values can help reduce oxidative stress, and natural products have multiple biological impacts.

Chemical genetic activation of the cholinergic basal forebrain hippocampal circuit rescues memory loss in Alzheimer's disease

Weilin Liu et al.

Summary: The degeneration of the cholinergic circuit from the basal forebrain to the hippocampus contributes to memory loss in Alzheimer's disease patients. Activation of the cholinergic circuit using chemical genetics improves learning and memory function in APP/PS1 mice models. Levels of choline in the basal forebrain and N-acetyl aspartate in the hippocampus could serve as biomarkers for early diagnosis of AD.
