Selective separation of dyes by green composite membrane based on polylactide with carboxylated cellulose microfiber from empty fruit bunch

Sasimaporn Ampawan et al.

Summary: A bio-based membrane was prepared by mixing a polylactide (PLA)/poly(butylene adipate-co-terephthalate) (PBAT) polymer blend with functionalized cellulose micro-fiber from empty fruit bunch (EFB) modified with maleic anhydride (MEFB). The PLA/PBAT-MEFB membrane exhibited higher water flux and higher adsorption efficiency towards the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) compared to the PLA/PBAT membrane. The membrane could be easily regenerated and maintained satisfactory separation performance in multiple cycles, making it suitable for selective filtration and wastewater treatment.

Cellulose Acetate Hollow Fiber Membranes for Forward Osmosis Using the Green Solvent Agnique AMD 3 L

Tobias Goetz et al.

Summary: A set of cellulose acetate hollow fiber membranes were manufactured using different weight ratios of acetone and the green solvent Agnique AMD 3L in dope solutions. The obtained hollow fibers revealed an asymmetric membrane structure and were tested with aqueous NaCl as the draw solution. With decreasing amounts of acetone, there was an increase in water flux and a reverse salt flux of the hollow fiber membranes annealed in water. Annealing in humid air also resulted in increased water flux and reverse salt flux compared to annealing in water. Decreasing the NaCl concentration led to an increase in the performance ratio of the hollow fiber membranes.
