Layered aerogel embedded with thiourea-resorcinol-formaldehyde resin for efficient adsorption of Au(III)

Yong Xiang et al.

Summary: Current adsorbents for Au(III) recovery have limitations including high costs, low adsorption capacity, recycling difficulty, and limited applications. In this study, a complex adsorbent SA-TRF was developed, which consists of a sodium alginate aerogel as the carrier and TRF resin as the functional element. The SA-TRF exhibited a high adsorption capacity and performed better than other adsorbents, making it promising for industrial applications.

Construction of porphyrin and viologen-linked cationic porous organic polymer for efficient and selective gold recovery

Yanli Chen et al.

Summary: V-PPOP-Br, a highly stable and easy-to-build cationic porous organic polymer, exhibits ultrahigh adsorption capacity and rapid adsorption rate for gold recovery from SIM cards. Its remarkable adsorption performance is attributed to ion exchange, redox reactions, and coordination. V-PPOP-Br also shows excellent recyclability, making it a promising ionic porous material for gold recovery.

Selective and rapid extraction of trace amount of gold from complex liquids with silver(I)-organic frameworks

Jie Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, we report the synthesis of two vinylene-linked two-dimensional silver(I)-organic frameworks via Knoevenagel condensation, which enable selective sensing and adsorption of ultra-trace amounts of gold from complex liquids. These materials exhibit low limit of detection, excellent selectivity and reusability.

Adsorption Behavior of Heavy Metal Ions by Hybrid Inulin-TEOS for Water Treatment

Wan Norfazilah Wan Ismail et al.

Summary: The hybrid inulin-tetraethoxysilane adsorbent prepared through the sol-gel process shows good efficiency and durability in removing heavy metal ions. The optimal conditions are found to be 30 mg adsorbent dosage at pH 4, 5 minutes of contact time with an initial concentration of 0.5 mg/L. Kinetic studies suggest that the pseudo-second order model can describe the overall adsorption process, and an intra-particle diffusion model can explain the adsorption process adequately.

Comparative research on selective adsorption of Pb(II) by biosorbents prepared by two kinds of modifying waste biomass: Highly-efficient performance, application and mechanism

Ming Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, xanthate modified bio-sorbents prepared from corn cob and chestnut shell effectively removed Pb(II) from aqueous solutions. The adsorption process was influenced by factors such as pH, reaction time, temperature, and initial concentrations. The bio-sorbents displayed high selectivity to Pb(II) over Cu(II) and Cd(II), and had great potential for practical applications in treating heavy-metal contaminated surface water.

Enhanced uranium removal from acidic wastewater by phosphonate-functionalized ordered mesoporous silica: Surface chemistry matters the most

Dimitrios A. Giannakoudakis et al.

Summary: The study presents a phosphonate functionalized ordered mesoporous silica as an efficient adsorbent for uranium removal in acidic conditions, achieving a high up-to-date capacity of 345 mg/g at pH = 4. The presence of other polyvalent cation does not affect the efficiency of adsorption, suggesting inner-sphere complex formation as the mechanism. The surface chemistry was found to be the key feature for the selective and stable removal of U(VI) species, based on spectroscopic validations of surface adsorbed U(VI).
