Mechanistic insight into the charge carrier separation and molecular oxygen activation of manganese doping BiOBr hollow microspheres

Zuming He et al.

Summary: High-efficiency separation of photogenerated charges and molecular oxygen activation is crucial for the photocatalytic removal of organic pollutants. However, the understanding of the impact of metal substitution on charge separation and oxygen activation is limited. In this study, manganese-doped BiOBr hollow microspheres were synthesized and characterized to investigate the effect of Mn doping. It was found that Mn doping induced oxygen vacancies and served as active sites for catalytic reactions, leading to enhanced degradation of crystal violet. The study provides insights into the rational design of highly active photocatalysts and the mechanisms of charge separation and oxygen activation.

Dong-Eun Lee et al.

Summary: An efficient two-dimensional (2D)/2D hybrid heterojunction consisting of BiOIO3 nanoplates and g-C3N4 nanosheets was developed for photocatalytic antibiotic degradation and H2 generation. The hybrid heterojunction exhibited superior performance and stability compared to the individual components under simulated solar light irradiation. The enhanced performance was attributed to the extended optical absorption range, large interfacial contact area, and improved charge separation efficiency and redox power.

Charge Separation Enhancement Enables Record Photocurrent Density in Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)4 Photocathodes for Efficient Solar Hydrogen Production

Guangxing Liang et al.

Summary: This study addresses the main issues of Cu2ZnSn(S,Se)(4) (CZTSSe) in solar energy conversion devices, including severe charge carrier recombination and sluggish charge separation efficiency, by fabricating a planar-type Mo/CZTSSe/CdS/TiO2/Pt photocathode. The high-quality CZTSSe film and favorable energy band alignment of CZTSSe/CdS heterojunction significantly enhance the device performance, achieving a remarkable photocurrent density and solar-to-hydrogen conversion efficiency.

Bifunctional S-scheme hybrid heterojunction comprising CdS nanorods and BiOIO 3 nanosheets for efficient solar-induced antibiotic degradation and highly-selective CO 2 reduction

Dong-Eun Lee et al.

Summary: The development of a bifunctional photocatalyst that can be utilized for both energy conversion and environmental remediation is of practical significance. A bifunctional S-scheme hybrid photocatalyst comprising CdS nanorods and BiOIO3 nanosheets was developed for efficient antibiotic degradation and CO2 reduction. The exceptional performance of the hybrid catalyst can be attributed to the effective S-scheme charge transfer process, which accelerates photoexcited charge transfer and ensures high charge separation and strong redox power. This study provides insight into the rational design of bifunctional S-scheme hybrid photocatalysts for CO2 reduction and pollutant degradation.

Construction of novel In2S3/Ti3C2 MXene quantum dots/SmFeO3 Z-scheme heterojunctions for efficient photocatalytic removal of sulfamethoxazole and 4-chlorophenol: Degradation pathways and mechanism insights

Karunamoorthy Saravanakumar et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel Ti3C2 MXene quantum dots (MQDs)-modified In2S3/MQDs/SmFeO3 (IMS) Z-scheme heterojunction was successfully designed and investigated. The as-prepared IMS heterojunctions showed significantly enhanced photocatalytic degradation of sulfamethoxazole and 4-chlorophenol compared to single and binary catalysts. The introduction of MQDs as charge transport bridges in the Z-scheme system played a crucial role in achieving effective spatial separation and charge transfer.

In situ fabrication of Bi2O3/C3N4/TiO2@C photocatalysts for visible-light photodegradation of sulfamethoxazole in water

Tao Ke et al.

Summary: Developing visible-light-driven photocatalysts with high charge separation and transfer efficiency for degrading organic pollutants in wastewater is a significant challenge. In this study, quaternary Bi2O3/C3N4/TiO2@C (BCTC) hybrids were successfully fabricated and showed excellent photocatalytic activity under visible light irradiation. The optimized BCTC hybrids exhibited a high degradation rate for sulfamethoxazole (SMZ) and outperformed other junctions such as Bi2O3/C3N4 and C3N4/TiO2@C. The enhanced photocatalytic performance of BCTC hybrids could be attributed to the formation of a double Z-scheme photocatalytic system and the photosensitization of Bi2O3 and C3N4.
