Assessing the factors influencing water quality using environment water quality index and partial least squares structural equation model in the Ebinur Lake Watershed, Xinjiang, China

Changjiang Liu et al.

Summary: This study quantifies the impact of environmental factors and land use/land cover changes on water quality in the Ebinur Lake Watershed in Xinjiang, China. The research finds that anthropogenic activities have a greater influence on water quality than environmental factors. Land use/cover types and environmental factors are identified as the major influencing factors on water quality.

Impact of monsoon shower on the hydrogeochemistry of groundwater along the lithological contact: a case study from South India

Devaraj Natesan et al.

Summary: This study focused on the hydrogeochemistry of groundwater in the Cretaceous-Tertiary boundary of Ariyalur district, Tamilnadu, India. The analysis of 284 groundwater samples from four seasons revealed dominant ions and seasonal composition changes. The groundwater quality in pre-monsoon and southwest monsoon seasons was found to be unsuitable for domestic and irrigation purposes.

Hydrochemical characteristics and pollution source apportionment of the groundwater in the east foothill of the Taihang Mountains, Hebei Province

Meng Mao et al.

Summary: The study investigated the hydrochemical characteristics of groundwater in the east foothill of the Taihang Mountains in Hebei Province, revealing the hydrogeochemical processes and main ion sources. Groundwater in this area is influenced by mineral dissolution and ion exchange, and is also polluted by substances such as NO3-.PCA analysis identified three principal components reflecting salinity, human activity, and fluoride impacts on groundwater chemistry.

Relating land-use/land-cover patterns to water quality in watersheds based on the structural equation modeling

Yandong Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the relationship between LULC patterns and water quality in the surrounding sub-watersheds of the Danjiangkou Reservoir in different seasons. The results revealed seasonal differences in water quality parameters, the significant impact of urban landscape proportion on water quality in dry season, and the sources of organic and inorganic pollutants in rainy season. Landscape spatial configuration affected water quality, moderated by landscape aggregation.

Fluoride and nitrate in groundwater of rural habitations of semiarid region of northern Rajasthan, India: a hydrogeochemical, multivariate statistical, and human health risk assessment perspective

Anchal Jandu et al.

Summary: In the rural areas of Jhunjhunu district, Rajasthan, India, groundwater is contaminated with high concentrations of fluoride and nitrate, exceeding the permissible limits set by Bureau of Indian Standards and World Health Organization. The study indicates that anthropogenic factors contribute to the high nitrate concentrations observed in the area, leading to poor water quality index and potential health risks for the residents. The dominant hydrochemical facies and geochemical mechanisms governing the evolution of groundwater hydrogeochemistry in the region are identified through principle component analysis and Gibbs plot.
