Optimization of Robot Posture and Workpiece Setup in Robotic Milling With Stiffness Threshold

Zhao-Yang Liao et al.

Summary: This article proposes a method to simultaneously optimize the robot posture and the workpiece setup in order to improve the stiffness of industrial robots in freeform surface milling and ensure machining quality. By introducing a new stiffness index and an optimization model that takes into account joint limitations, singularity-free and collision-free constraints, and solving a minimum set covering problem using clustering and greedy algorithms, the effectiveness of the proposed method is validated through simulations and experimental studies.

Task-Oriented Evaluation of the Feasible Kinematic Directional Capabilities for Robot Machining

Sasa Stradovnik et al.

Summary: Performing machining of complex surfaces is challenging for robots, especially in collaborative robotics. Efficient algorithms are needed to evaluate motion capabilities prior to task execution. This study proposes the Decomposed Twist Feasibility method to provide accurate information about maximum kinematic capabilities.

Optimal TCP and Robot Base Placement for a Set of Complex Continuous Paths

Thomas Weingartshofer et al.

Summary: This study proposes an algorithm to optimize the placement of industrial robots in production lines by adjusting the tool center point (TCP) to avoid costly and time-consuming repositioning. The algorithm considers kinematic singularities and wide turning ranges of robot axes. The feasibility of the approach is demonstrated in a trim application in shoe production for a set of 44 complex continuous tool paths.
