EPLINβ Is Involved in the Assembly of Cadherin-catenin Complexes in Osteoblasts and Affects Bone Formation

Shihoko Miyazaki et al.

Summary: In this study, the role of EPLIN beta in osteoblasts was investigated. EPLIN beta deficiency led to altered bone structure and decreased alkaline phosphatase activity. EPLIN beta is involved in the assembly of cadherin-catenin complexes in osteoblasts and affects bone formation.

Spatiotemporal expression of HMGB2 regulates cell proliferation and hepatocyte size during liver regeneration

Koichi Yano et al.

Summary: This study investigated the functional role of chromatin protein HMGB2 in liver regeneration. The results showed that the spatiotemporal expression of HMGB2 is closely correlated with hepatocyte proliferation, and HMGB2 knockout leads to delayed cell proliferation and hepatocyte hypertrophy. The experiments also found that cell proliferation is significantly decreased in HMGB2 KO cells and HMGB2 siRNA transfected cells.

An Advanced Detection System for In Situ Hybridization Using a Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer-based Molecular Beacon Probe

Narantsog Choijookhuu et al.

Summary: In situ hybridization (ISH) is a powerful method for detecting specific RNAs at the cellular level. This study introduces a new application of fluorescence resonance energy transfer (FRET)-based molecular beacon (MB) probes for ISH, providing rapid hybridization, high sensitivity, and specificity for target RNAs.

Phosphorylation of the small heat shock protein HspB1 regulates cytoskeletal recruitment and cell motility

Laura M. Hoffman et al.

Summary: The small heat shock protein HspB1 plays an important role in responding to mechanical cues and regulating cell function, such as actin cytoskeletal remodeling, cell spreading, and cell motility. Phosphorylation of HspB1 is required for its recruitment to stretch-stimulated actin cytoskeleton structures and for normal cell behaviors. This study highlights the posttranslational regulation and importance of HspB1 in mechanotransduction.

Bone remodeling: an operational process ensuring survival and bone mechanical competence

Simona Bolamperti et al.

Summary: Bone remodeling is a continuous cellular process that replaces old and damaged bone with new bone on the same surface. Recent research has shown that all bone cells participate in bone remodeling by interacting with their progenitors, other cells, and bone matrix constituents at different differentiation stages.

Mechanical regulation of bone remodeling

Lijun Wang et al.

Summary: Bone remodeling is a lifelong process that involves a balance between bone formation and resorption. Mechanical forces play a crucial role in maintaining bone homeostasis, and loss of mechanical stimulation can weaken the bone structure and increase the risk of fracture. Understanding the mechanisms by which the body senses and transduces mechanical forces is important for studying bone disorders and developing strategies for skeletal rejuvenation.

Global analysis of shared T cell specificities in human non-small cell lung cancer enables HLA inference and antigen discovery

Shin-Heng Chiou et al.

Summary: Through analyzing a large number of T cell receptor sequences, we identified T cell receptors with shared antigen specificity in a subset of non-small cell lung cancer patients and identified some specificity groups enriched in tumors. Using a yeast peptide-HLA display library, we confirmed the antigenic epitopes of one tumor-enriched specificity group, indicating that pathogen cross-reactivity may be a feature of multiple cancers.

Diversity and versatility of p38 kinase signalling in health and disease

Begona Canovas et al.

Summary: The ability of cells to cope with various stressful situations is crucial for survival, with p38 alpha kinase playing a key role in the cellular stress response. Understanding the diversity of p38 alpha substrates, their mechanisms, and their connections to specific cellular functions is important for insights into physiology and pathology. Dysregulation of the p38 alpha pathway has been linked to diseases such as inflammation, immune disorders, and cancer.

Regulation and Role of Transcription Factors in Osteogenesis

Wilson Cheuk Wing Chan et al.

Summary: Bone is a dynamic tissue that responds to environmental changes such as nutrition and mechanical stress. Bone homeostasis is maintained through bone remodeling in adulthood, which involves a controlled balance between bone-resorbing osteoclasts and bone-forming osteoblasts. During embryonic development, bones can form through intramembraneous or endochondral ossification.
