Identification of molecular network of gut-brain axis associated with neuroprotective effects of PPARδ-ligand erucic acid in rotenone-induced Parkinson's disease model in zebrafish

Ismail Unal et al.

Summary: Disruption of the gut-brain axis in Parkinson's disease (PD) can lead to motor symptoms and participate in PD pathogenesis. Recent studies have shown the neuroprotective potential of different PPAR delta agonists. In this study, erucic acid treatment corrected the dysregulated expression of proteins associated with cytoskeletal organization, transport, and localization, and improved locomotor activity, expressions of TH, PD-related genes (lrrk2, park2, park7, pink1) and oxidant-damage in brain and intestines in the rotenone group.

Stevioside ameliorates hyperglycemia and glucose intolerance, in a diet-induced obese zebrafish model, through epigenetic, oxidative stress and inflammatory regulation

Esra Dandin et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the effects of stevioside on glucose tolerance, epigenetic and metabolic regulators of insulin resistance, oxidant-antioxidant status and tissue histology in a diet-induced obese (DIO) zebrafish model. Beneficial effects of stevioside were observed on glucose tolerance, oxidative stress and inflammatory mediators linking obesity to insulin resistance and its epigenetic regulation, in DIO model.

Bisphenol A reveals its obesogenic effects through disrupting glucose tolerance, oxidant-antioxidant balance, and modulating inflammatory cytokines and fibroblast growth factor in zebrafish

Merih Beler et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of Bisphenol A (BPA) on obesity and its related regulatory mechanisms in zebrafish. The results showed that BPA exposure led to increased body weight, impaired glucose tolerance, disrupted oxidant-antioxidant balance, and increased inflammatory response. Additionally, BPA also affected the expression of fibroblast growth factor and epigenetic regulator Dnmt3a in the liver.

Upregulation of hepatic autophagy under nutritional ketosis

Daniela Liskiewicz et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the influence of the ketogenic diet on hepatic autophagy, showing an upregulation of autophagy in animals fed with the diet. The magnitude of this effect appeared to vary depending on the diet composition. Additionally, markers of regulatory pathways linking the ketogenic diet to autophagy were measured, revealing treatment-specific effects such as an upregulation of SIRT1 and downregulation of FOXO3 and p53.
