Analytic assessment of renewable potential in Northeast India and impact of their exploitation on environment and economy

Shantanu Acharya

Summary: There is a significant increase in the global demand for electricity, which is currently met by fossil fuels. However, this leads to mining, environmental pollution, and global warming. Northeast India has abundant renewable energy reserves that can fulfill the region's electricity requirement and contribute to other states' demand. The use of clean energy can conserve fossil fuels, reduce expenditure, and slow down environmental pollution.

Disinfection methods for domestic rainwater harvesting systems: A scoping review

Sajeeve Latif et al.

Summary: Harvested rainwater requires pre-treatment and disinfection before human consumption. A sustainable and cost-effective disinfection method, such as hypochlorite, is needed for rural rainwater harvesting systems. Proper dosing and residual effects of disinfectant are important considerations for effective treatment.

Rising targets to 55% GHG emissions reduction - The smart energy systems approach for improving the Italian energy strategy

Lorenzo Mario Pastore et al.

Summary: The EU Commission has increased the GHG emissions reduction targets to at least 55% by 2030. A methodology based on the Smart Energy Systems (SES) approach has been proposed to improve the Italian national energy and climate plans (NECPs). The best scenario achieves the emissions reduction targets while lowering the annualized costs of the Italian energy system, but further increases in renewable energy capacity targets are needed.

Investigate the link among energy Consumption, environmental Pollution, Foreign Trade, Foreign direct Investment, and economic Growth: evidence from GCC countries

Bassem Kahouli et al.

Summary: The principal aim of this study is to investigate the contribution and influence of Foreign Trade (FT), Foreign Direct Investment (FDI), and Financial Development (FD) on the Energy Consumption (EC) Environmental Pollution (EP)-Economic Growth (EG) link for the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) over the period 1971-2019. The study develops an augmented growth model and applies the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) procedure and the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM) to analyze the long-run relationship and causality. The empirical results support the existence of cointegration among the variables and show mixed coefficients across countries. In the long-run, EC, FT, and FDI are related to a rise in EG for all countries except Kuwait, Oman, and KSA. Furthermore, the short-term analysis reveals that EC generates EG for all GCC countries, indicating economic expansion. The findings of this research paper have significant implications for policymakers in developing comprehensive trade, investment, financial, and energy policies to achieve sustainable development.

Future global electricity demand load curves

Victhalia Zapata Castillo et al.

Summary: This research determines the shape of future electricity demand load curves by using empirical data on daily demand patterns and annual electricity demand data. The results show that the load curves are not greatly influenced by time but are highly sensitive to load variations from electric vehicle charging patterns.

Rainwater as a source of drinking water: A resource recovery case study from Vietnam

Thi Thuy Bui et al.

Summary: The successful implementation of a Rainwater For Drinking (RFD) system at Ton Due Thang University in Vietnam addressed water quality uncertainties through technical design and IT-assisted monitoring, while also promoting awareness and ownership through social platforms. By utilizing local labor and materials, economic challenges were overcome, demonstrating the potential for rainwater to be used as drinking water and contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 6.

Experimental investigation of an integrated rainwater harvesting unit for drinking water production at the household level

Mohammad A. Alim et al.

Summary: Billions of people lack access to clean drinking water, with some still consuming untreated rainwater despite health risks. A study demonstrates the feasibility of producing clean drinking water from an integrated rainwater harvesting unit, meeting Australian standards. The economic payback time is 8 years, and the system has the capacity to produce 348 +/- 20 L of drinking water per day.
