Diuretics: a contemporary pharmacological classification?

Miriam C. A. Kehrenberg et al.

Summary: Diuretics are drugs that promote urine flow and are used for the treatment of edema, hypertension, and heart failure. The current pharmacological classification of diuretics has not kept pace with pharmacological research, and there is a need to introduce mechanism-based drug classifications. Classical diuretics have lost their relevance, while newer diuretic agents have not been included in the pharmacological group.

Neural Network-Based Calculator for Rat Glomerular Filtration Rate

Oscar J. Pellicer-Valero et al.

Summary: Glomerular filtration is a vital process of renal physiology and its abnormalities are associated with acute kidney injury and chronic kidney disease. A neural network-based calculator for rat creatinine clearance has been developed, which accurately predicts the clearance rate using plasma creatinine and body weight. The calculator is particularly effective in comparing clearance rates among different groups within the same experiment.

Evaluation of the diuretic effect of crude ethanol and saponin-rich extracts of Herniaria glabra L. in rats

El Mabrouki Hakim et al.

Summary: The study investigated the diuretic activity of the crude ethanol extract and saponin-rich extract of Herniaria glabra L., finding significant diuretic effects at different doses. The presence of triterpenoid saponins, such as medicagenic acid and oleanolic acid, may be responsible for the diuretic activity of the plant.
