Nonlinear planar and non-planar vibrations of viscoelastic fluid-conveying pipes with external and internal resonances

Bo Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the nonlinear vibrations of a viscoelastic fluid-conveying pipe under in-plane and out-of-plane transverse excitations, focusing on external and internal resonances. A three-dimensional pipe model is developed based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and Kelvin-Voigt viscoelasticity to couple the in-plane and out-of-plane vibrations. The Galerkin method is used to solve the nonlinear governing equations, and the dynamical responses are examined in different regions. The results show complex nonlinear dynamics and provide insights for safe design and novel applications of such structures.

Stability and Nonlinear Response Analysis of Parametric Vibration for Elastically Constrained Pipes Conveying Pulsating Fluid

Meng-Yuan Hao et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the effects of elastic constraints on pipe stability and nonlinear responses under pulsating velocities. A mechanical model of a fluid-conveying pipe under elastic clamps is established and a partial differential-integral nonlinear equation governing the lateral vibration of the pipe is derived. The natural frequencies, mode functions, stable boundaries, and nonlinear steady-state responses of the pipe are obtained. Interesting conclusions are revealed, including the effects of constraint stiffness on the instability boundary and vibration responses of the fluid-conveying pipe.

Nonlinear Fractional-Order Dynamic Stability of Fluid-Conveying Pipes Constituted by the Viscoelastic Materials with Time-Dependent Velocity

Ye Tang et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the stability and bifurcation behaviors of fluid-conveying pipes made of fractional-order viscoelastic material with pulsatile flow. By accurately describing the viscoelastic property using the Riemann-Liouville fractional-order constitutive equation, nonlinear governing equations are established based on the Euler-Bernoulli beam theory and von Karman's nonlinearity. The direct multiple-scale method is used to determine the stability boundaries and steady-state responses under parametric excitations. Numerical examples show that the stability of the pipes can be significantly enhanced by designing and tuning the fractional order of viscoelastic materials.

Critical velocity and supercritical natural frequencies of fluid-conveying pipes with retaining clips

Tian-Chang Deng et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of retaining clips on the supercritical vibration characteristics of fluid-conveying pipes. The governing equation for the pipe with retaining clip is derived, and the effects of clip stiffness and position on critical flow velocity, equilibrium configuration, and natural frequencies are emphasized. The study reveals that retaining clip stiffness can lead to different types of equilibrium configurations and the natural frequencies do not follow a monotonic pattern with increasing clip stiffness in supercritical flow.

Nonlinear parametric vibration of spinning pipes conveying fluid with varying spinning speed and flow velocity

Feng Liang et al.

Summary: In this study, a nonlinear parameter-excited model of spinning pipes conveying fluid is proposed and analyzed for its stability and nonlinear vibrations. The influences of viscoelastic material, geometrical nonlinearity, and perturbed spinning speed on the parametric vibrations are investigated using numerical simulation. The results show that parametric resonance with quasi-periodic motion mode is induced by periodically perturbed fluid, and different aperiodic whirling motions are observed in the system.
