Multilevel proteomic analyses reveal molecular diversity between diffuse-type and intestinal-type gastric cancer

Wenhao Shi et al.

Summary: This research utilizes multilevel proteomic analyses to investigate the molecular differences between diffuse-type gastric cancer (DGC) and intestinal-type gastric cancer (IGC) in Chinese patients. The analyses reveal an ARIDIA mutation with opposite prognostic effects, identify three subtypes for DGC and IGC based on distinct protein expression patterns, and demonstrate that disease progressions are regulated by specific transcription factor complexes. Furthermore, immune cell infiltration is shown to be an indicator for immunotherapeutic effectiveness. These results contribute to a better understanding of gastric cancer and have implications for precision medicine.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor family proteins are multitasking cytokines in tissue injury

Shanshan Song et al.

Summary: The family of macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF) proteins in humans consists of MIF, D-dopachrome tautomerase (D-DT), and DDT-like (DDTL). MIF has various effects on cellular processes, while the functions of D-DT and DDTL are still unclear. Targeting MIF therapeutically should be carefully considered due to its multiple functions.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Shedding more light on the role of Midkine in hepatocellular carcinoma: New perspectives on diagnosis and therapy

Arezoo Gowhari Shabgah et al.

Summary: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) progression is influenced by complex molecular pathways. Midkine (MDK) plays a crucial role in HCC, impacting tumor cell viability and promoting metastasis by blocking anoikis. Its involvement in inflammatory responses and angiogenesis makes MDK a potential biomarker and target for therapy in HCC management.

Macrophage migration inhibitory factor promotes the migration of dendritic cells through CD74 and the activation of the Src/PI3K/myosin II pathway

Annette Ives et al.

Summary: The cytokine MIF plays a chemokine-like role in promoting the migration of dendritic cells (DCs) by activating the Src/PI3K signaling pathway and myosin II complexes. MIF contributes to the recruitment of DCs to draining lymph nodes through autocrine and paracrine activities acting via CD74. These findings indicate that MIF is crucial for DC motility and trafficking.

CSF1/CSF1R Axis Blockade Limits Mesothelioma and Enhances Efficiency of Anti-PDL1 Immunotherapy

Sophia Fotiou Magkouta et al.

Summary: CSF1/CSF1R signaling plays a crucial role in regulating tumor-associated macrophages recruitment and M2 polarization. Inhibition of CSF1R can impede mesothelioma progression, enhance anti-tumor immunity, and improve the efficacy of anti-PDL1 immunotherapy by activating dendritic and CD8+ T cells. The combination of CSF1R inhibitor and anti-PDL1 agent shows synergistic effects in retarding mesothelioma growth.
