Phenolic contents, organicacids and antioxidant capacities of twenty grape (Vitis vinifera L.) cultivars having different berry colors

Gani Kisaca et al.

Summary: This study investigated the phytochemical properties of twenty selected grapevine cultivars, including organic acids and phenolic compounds. The results showed that different cultivars contained different types and amounts of organic acids and phenolic compounds. Black grape varieties were rich in ellagic acid, red grape varieties were rich in rutin, and white grape varieties had the highest content of chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, protocatechuic acid, and gallic acid. There was a significant difference in total antioxidant capacity among the studied grape cultivars, except for q-coumaric acid.

Dual domestications and origin of traits in grapevine evolution

Yang Dong et al.

Summary: We investigate the evolution and domestication of grapevines by studying 3525 cultivated and wild varieties worldwide. Harsh climate in the Pleistocene led to the separation of wild grape ecotypes due to habitat fragmentation. Domestication occurred around 11,000 years ago in Western Asia and the Caucasus, giving rise to table and wine grapevines. The domesticates from Western Asia dispersed into Europe, hybridizing with ancient wild ecotypes and diversifying into muscat and unique western wine grape ancestries as human migration took place in the late Neolithic. Analysis of domestication traits also provides insights into the selection for berry palatability, hermaphroditism, muscat flavor, and berry skin color. These findings demonstrate the significance of grapevines in the early development of agriculture across Eurasia.

Ingredients with anti-inflammatory effect from medicine food homology plants

Qiuxia Lu et al.

Summary: Inflammation is a reaction of the immune system to external harmful stimuli and infections, chronic inflammation leads to various diseases. Traditional medicines in many countries recommend a variety of foods, giving rise to the concept of medicine food homology. Over the past few decades, secondary metabolites from plants in medicine food homology have been found to have anti-inflammatory effects.

Organic acids characterization: wines of Pinot noir and juices of ?Bordeaux grape varieties?

Maisa M. M. Lima et al.

Summary: The main goal of this study was to evaluate the organic acids profiles of Pinot noir wines from different vineyards and to characterize grape juices of 'Bordeaux grape varieties' using the HPLC-DAD method. The concentrations of organic acids varied in wines and grape juices from different regions, and the method proved to be reliable for characterizing grape juices and wines from different growing regions.

Comparative Study on Grape Berry Anthocyanins of Various Teinturier Varieties

Laszlo Korosi et al.

Summary: This study compared the anthocyanin profiles of 15 teinturier grape varieties collected from a gene bank in Hungary. Twenty-one anthocyanins were identified and quantified. The results showed significant differences in anthocyanin patterns between the skin and juice. The findings provide valuable information for chemotaxonomy and help in selecting suitable teinturier varieties for food coloring or winemaking purposes.

Non-invasive quantification of vitamin C, citric acid, and sugar in 'Valencia' oranges using infrared spectroscopies

Karla Rodrigues Borba et al.

Summary: Near (NIR) and mid (MIR) infrared spectroscopy combined with multivariate analysis were used to evaluate the vitamin C, citric acid, and sugar content in 'Valencia' oranges. The models developed showed strong correlations and low prediction error rates, indicating the applicability of infrared techniques for non-destructive determination of orange quality parameters.

Characterization of the phenolic ripening development of 'BRS Vitoria' seedless table grapes using HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS

Ronan Carlos Colombo et al.

Summary: The study analyzed the phenolic ripening of 'BRS Vitoria' seedless table grapes at different ripening stages using HPLC-DAD-ESI-MS/MS. It was found that the grapes can be harvested approximately 28 days after veraison, when the berries reach high soluble solids content and low titratable acidity. The grapes showed a typical anthocyanin profile and were also considered an important source of proanthocyanidins.
