Evaluation method of ecological vulnerability of scenic spots based on entropy weight TOPSIS model

Jiong Li

Summary: An ecological vulnerability assessment method of scenic spots based on entropy weight TOPSIS model is proposed to solve the problem of poor accuracy in traditional methods. By analyzing the natural environment and conditions of the scenic spot, determining the ecological vulnerability evaluation index, and constructing the evaluation index system through spatial principal component analysis, the study calculates the weight of ecological vulnerability index using the entropy weight TOPSIS model and determines the ecological vulnerability index. The results show a high accuracy of 0.98 for this method.

Exploring hazardous chemical explosion accidents with association rules and Bayesian networks

Xin Li et al.

Summary: A qualitative and quantitative model is proposed in this study to explore the causes and paths of hazardous chemical explosion accidents (HCEAs) in China. The accident factors were screened using association rule (AR), and the fault tree (FT) structure of HCEA was developed. The qualitative model was then transformed into a quantitative Bayesian network (BN) model. The results reveal that improper temperature control due to operating procedures is the most likely route to accidents, and process management and operating procedures have the greatest impact on HCEA.

Discovery of potential risks for the gas transmission station using monitoring data and the OOBN method

Yinuo Chen et al.

Summary: This study proposes a structure mapping method based on failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) to form the GTS's object-oriented Bayesian network (OOBN) framework, making the model more user-friendly and enabling real-time discovery of potential risks. The proposed method identifies process anomalies through monitoring data and analyzes the events and propagation patterns with the highest potential risk. A case study of a GTS in China demonstrates the benefits of this method in assisting station operators in identifying possible hazards and providing a foundation for daily risk mitigation.

A framework estimating the minimum sample size and margin of error for maritime quantitative risk analysis

Romanas Puisa et al.

Summary: This paper systematically synthesised the knowledge on statistical errors and offered a framework for determining the minimum sample size and margin of error when calculating the average accident frequency. The framework was applied to maritime accident datasets and provided useful insights for quantitative risk analysis. The application results showed that the determined minimum sample sizes exceeded existing datasets by decades and suggested a need for at least 10% margin of error in relevant risk assessments. Additionally, the study revealed that average accident frequencies for large passenger ships have remained constant over the past 40 years.

A novel compression approach for truck GPS trajectory data

Sijing Liu et al.

Summary: With the increasing application of location-aware devices, there is a new demand for efficiently storing trajectory data. Trajectory compression reduces storage space and cost, data transmission time and cost by retaining critical trajectory points and eliminating redundant data. The TCSP method proposed in this study uses stay points and road network data to compress GPS trajectory data, achieving a stable compression rate of 8.61% and restoring the original trajectory route. Compared to other algorithms, TCSP shows better compression effect and ratio.

Quantitative risk analysis of a hazardous jet fire event for hydrogen transport in natural gas transmission pipelines

H. A. J. Froeling et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the risk analysis of hydrogen transmission in existing pipelines, comparing the individual risk associated with hydrogen jet fires with natural gas. The analysis shows that hydrogen jet fires yield lower lethality levels and decrease faster with distance than natural gas jet fires, leading to significant lower individual risk in large pipelines. However, ignition effects dominate the individual risk for decreasing pipeline diameters, causing increased individual risk in the vicinity of the pipeline compared to natural gas.

A dynamic multi-agent approach for modeling the evolution of multi-hazard accident scenarios in chemical plants

Chao Chen et al.

Summary: The study developed a dynamic methodology called Dynamic Graph Monte Carlo (DGMC) to model the evolution of multi-hazard accident scenarios, showing that risk may be underestimated if the spatial-temporal evolution of multi-hazard scenarios is neglected. Vapor cloud explosion (VCEs) may result in more severe damage than fire, and safety distances based solely on fire hazards are insufficient to prevent VCEs damage.
