Assessing the time course and magnitude of different forms of attentional priming

Arni Kristjansson et al.

Summary: By contrasting the repetition effects of lower-level and higher-level feature dimensions (color and facial expression), it was found that there were significant differences in the size and temporal profiles of priming effects for color and expression. This suggests that the underlying mechanisms behind these effects operate differently. Thus, different forms of priming should be compared with caution, and priming seems to occur at various levels of processing, indicating that it should be considered a general principle of perceptual processing.

Priming effects in inefficient visual search: Real, but transient

Jeremy M. Wolfe et al.

Summary: In visual search tasks, the previous trial can impact the response of the next trial. Repetition of the target speeds up the response, while switching to a different target slows down the response. This study examines the priming effect in inefficient search and suggests that it might guide the earliest deployments of attention or speed up the decision-making process for the selected target.

Visual search efficiency and functional visual cortical size in children with and without dyslexia

Summary: The study found that children with dyslexia have impaired visual search efficiency, and reading ability is correlated with V1 size asymmetry, which may contribute to inter-individual variation in reading performance.
