Computational insights into the iron-catalyze d magnesium-me diate d hydroformylation of alkynes

Himanshu Sharma et al.

Summary: Iron is a widely studied transition metal due to its low toxicity, bio-compatibility, and high natural abundance. Various iron-catalyzed reactions have been developed, but a complete understanding of the mechanistic details is still lacking. In this study, DFT calculations were used to investigate the hydroformylation of alkynes catalyzed by iron salts. The calculations revealed the most favorable reaction pathway and the importance of solvent in the reaction. These findings provide valuable insights for further studies on iron-catalyzed hydrofunctionalisation reactions.

Iron-Catalyzed Magnesium-Mediated Formal Hydroformylation of Alkynes and Alkenes

Tanuja Tewari et al.

Summary: An iron-catalyzed, magnesium-mediated, formal hydroformylation method for alkynes and alkenes in the absence of syngas has been reported. The reaction proceeds with good to excellent conversion and selectively produces alpha,beta-unsaturated aldehydes. Mechanistic investigations revealed the presence of vinyl magnesium intermediate, and the control experiment confirmed the iron catalyst's homogeneous nature.

Hydroformylation of olefins by metals other than rhodium

Rohit Kumar et al.

Summary: Metal-catalyzed hydroformylation of alkenes is widely employed for the synthesis of aldehydes, with rhodium being the most commonly used metal catalyst. However, due to rhodium's rarity, high cost, and depletion, finding alternative catalysts is of great interest. This review summarizes the recent advancements in hydroformylation using metals other than rhodium, highlighting cobalt as the only metal that poses a significant challenge to rhodium's dominance.

Multiple-Functional Diphosphines: Synthesis, Characterization, andApplication to Pd-Catalyzed Alkoxycarbonylation of Alkynes

Kai-Chun Zhao et al.

Summary: A series of diphosphine ligands containing bis-phosphino fragments and bis-amido groups have been synthesized and their effects on the catalytic activity of Pd complexes have been investigated. Among these ligands, L5 exhibits a synergistic catalytic effect, leading to higher activity and yields in the alkoxycarbonylation reaction of alkynes with methanol.

Iron-Catalyzed Alkoxycarbonylation of Alkyl Bromides via a Two-Electron Transfer Process

Han-Jun Ai et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed carbonylative cross-coupling reactions are widely used methods in organic synthesis. However, the practical application of iron as a catalyst in carbonylation reactions has not been extensively explored. Recent studies have shown that iron catalysts can catalyze alkoxycarbonylation reactions and activate alkyl bromides and alkyl iodides through distinct electron transfer processes.
