IDF diabetes Atlas: Global estimates of undiagnosed diabetes in adults

Katherine Ogurtsova et al.

Summary: According to the 2021 estimates, nearly half of adults with diabetes are unaware of their condition. The highest proportions of undiagnosed diabetes were found in Africa, the Western Pacific, and South-East Asia regions, while the lowest proportion was observed in North America and the Caribbean.

Polyphenolic rich fraction of Physalis peruviana calyces and its nano emulsion induce apoptosis by caspase 3 up-regulation and G2/M arrest in hepatocellular carcinoma

Doha H. Abou Baker et al.

Summary: Phytocompounds found in fruit wastes are valuable in cancer treatment. This study explored the use of Physalis peruviana calyces and its nano-emulsion in the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma. The results showed that the butanolic fraction of Physalis peruviana calyces and its nano-emulsion exhibited significant anticancer activity, inducing apoptosis and cell cycle arrest in HepG2 cells. Furthermore, the treatment up-regulated caspase-3 mRNA, suggesting the activation of the intrinsic mitochondrial pathway. These findings suggest that PPC and its nano-emulsion have potential as effective drugs for hepatocellular carcinoma.

Effect of Nanoencapsulation on the Antimicrobial and Antibiofilm Activities of Algerian Origanum glandulosum Desf. against Multidrug-Resistant Clinical Isolates

Sarah Bouaouina et al.

Summary: The emergence of multidrug-resistant bacteria poses a threat to public health. Essential oils derived from plants such as Origanum glandulosum have been found to have potential as alternatives to antibiotics. Encapsulation of the oils into nanoparticles improves their activity, and they show strong antibacterial activity against multidrug-resistant isolates.
