Triethylenetetramine-impregnated ZIF-8 nanoparticles for CO2 adsorption

Ali Mohammadi et al.

Summary: This study investigates the impact of incorporating triethylenetetramine (TETA) into zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-8) on CO2 adsorption capacity. The results show that TETA-impregnated ZIF-8 samples have slightly higher CO2 adsorption capacity than ZIF-8 at pressures lower than 2.5 bars, but as the pressure increases, ZIF-8 samples exhibit higher CO2 adsorption capacity compared to TETA-impregnated ZIF-8 samples.

Summary: In this study, a chitosan-based nanofibrous scaffold containing tannic acid and zinc-based metal organic framework was developed for antibacterial and hemostatic wound dressing. The nanofibrous scaffold exhibited uniform and bead-free nanofibers with excellent physicochemical characteristics. The incorporation of tannic acid and metal organic frameworks greatly enhanced the hemostatic performance and antibacterial activity of the nanofibrous scaffold.

Activated carbon derived from sugarcane and modified with natural zeolite for efficient adsorption of methylene blue dye: experimentally and theoretically approaches

Fatma Mohamed et al.

Summary: The introduction of activated carbon/natural zeolite (AC/NZ) as a nanoadsorbent for enhancing methylene blue (MB) dye adsorption was studied. The adsorption capacity of AC500/NZ for MB dye was found to be approximately 51 mg/g at 25 degrees C, pH 7, and an AC500/NZ mass of 50 mg. The kinetics model and isotherm model indicated that the adsorption process is physical in nature. Monte Carlo simulation supported these findings and showed that the Van der Waals dispersion force is responsible for the physical adsorption of MB molecules. AC500/NZ is considered a strong contender for water remediation.

Implanting polyethylene glycol into MIL-101(Cr) as hydrophobic barrier for enhancing toluene adsorption under highly humid environment

Jiaxing Wang et al.

Summary: The study focused on enhancing the adsorption of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) under high humidity conditions by implanting hydrophobic short-chain polyethylene glycol (PEG) into MIL-101(Cr). The addition of PEG resulted in the formation of new hydrophobic pores that significantly improved adsorption capacity and diffusivity for toluene while reducing those for water. The breakthrough curve showed a 3.3 times increase in toluene working capacity on PEG(5)@MIL-101 at 80% RH compared to pristine MIL-101(Cr).

The dynamic competition in adsorption between gaseous benzene and moisture on metal-organic frameworks across their varying concentration levels

Botao Liu et al.

Summary: Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) offer a new approach for air/gas purification systems through adsorption and catalysis. Investigating the adsorption behavior of two MOF sorbents with gaseous benzene showed the high reactivity of Cu-metal sites compared to Zr sites. Water vapor competitively inhibited the benzene adsorption mechanism, particularly at low benzene concentrations and high relative humidity levels.

Zhang Caisong et al.

Summary: A visible-light-driven ZIF-8-coated CdS popcorn-like photocatalyst was successfully synthesized by controlling the preferential construction of ligands, showing high efficiency and stability. The photocatalytic efficiency of the ZIF-8-coated CdS popcorn-like photocatalysts remained high after five cycles, with relative humidity playing a crucial role in the degradation process.

Arman Soleimanpour et al.

Summary: In this research, a novel composite based on activated carbon and MIL-53(Al) was synthesized using the solution mixing method. The results show that increasing the MOF content in the composite increases the CO2 adsorption capacity, and the corresponding adsorption isotherms were developed.

Po-Wen Chen et al.

Summary: A bacterial reverse mutation assay was developed and improved in this study to evaluate the mutagenicity of indoor air quality using direct gas exposure module. Findings suggest that gaseous HCHO exposure displayed weak but direct, time-dependent, and dose-dependent mutagenic activities, while 50 ppm toluene exposure also showed similar characteristics.

Enhanced removal efficiency of toluene over activated carbon under visible light

Shahid Saqlain et al.

Summary: The study showed that pre-treating activated carbon with HNO3 can enhance toluene removal efficiency under light exposure. Shorter wavelengths of visible light were more effective in toluene removal compared to longer wavelengths. Activated carbon can sustain its photocatalytic activity when mixed with cement, indicating its potential applications in airpurifying building materials.

Investigation of MOF-derived humidity-proof hierarchical porous carbon frameworks as highly-selective toluene absorbents and sensing materials

Zehui Li et al.

Summary: Carbon frameworks derived from metal-organic frameworks have been produced as efficient adsorbents for toluene due to their optimal hierarchical porous structure. The CFs derived from ZIF-8 under 1100℃ exhibited the highest adsorption capacity, attributed to their larger specific surface area, newly generated micropores and mesopores, and higher degree of graphitization. These CFs also showed strong hydrophobicity, good selectivity to toluene, and high sensitivity when applied as sensors, providing potential for air pollution abatement.
