A label-free aptasensor for dual-mode detection of aflatoxin B1 based on inner filter effect using silver nanoparticles and arginine-modified gold nanoclusters

Jincheng Xiong et al.

Summary: To address the health risks of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) contaminated foods, a label-free aptasensor was developed for dual-mode colorimetric/fluorometric detection of AFB1. The aptasensor showed a color change from yellow to gray in the presence of AFB1 due to the aggregation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). Additionally, the fluorescence signal was enhanced by using arginine-modified light-emitting gold nanoclusters (AuNCs), resulting in a more sensitive detection of AFB1. The aptasensor demonstrated good response to AFB1 concentration in the range of 5-400 ng/mL with a detection limit of 1.91 ng/mL.

Broad-spectrum portable magnetic relaxation switching immunosensor with gold-functionalized magnetic nanoprobes for the sensitive detection of multiple pyrethroids

Sulin Hou et al.

Summary: A novel magnetic relaxation switching (MRS) sensor was designed to detect multiple pyrethroids (PYRs) by combining a broad-spectrum antibody CL-CN/1D2 and synthesized immune gold-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles. This sensor achieves broad-spectrum PYRs detection at trace amounts and provides an effective strategy for enhancing the sensitivity and stability of portable MRS sensors when detecting hydrophobic analytes in the environment.

Dummy molecularly imprinted solid-phase extraction-SERS determination of AFB1 in peanut

Li Fan et al.

Summary: In this study, a simple and reliable surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) method was developed for sensitive and selective detection of aflatoxin B1 (AFB1) in peanut samples. The method used dummy molecularly imprinted polymers (DMIPs) to selectively enrich AFB1 from the samples, and a thioctic acid-decorated AgNPs monolayer film (TA-AgNPs MF) as a SERS-active substrate to determine the amount of AFB1. The SERS assay showed high detection sensitivity for AFB1 in peanut samples with a limit of detection of 0.1 μg L-1 and a linear concentration range from 0.1 to 10 μg L-1.

Self-enhanced electrochemiluminescence of luminol induced by palladium-graphene oxide for ultrasensitive detection of aflatoxin B1 in food samples

Mengke Xia et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel and credible electrochemiluminescence immunoassay (ECLIA) was developed for the ultrasensitive and highly selective detection of aflatoxin B-1 (AFB(1)). The combination of amino-functionalized 3D graphene hydrogel (NGH) and self-enhanced ECL of luminol-palladium-graphene oxide (lum-Pd-GO) served as the platform and marker, respectively. The developed ECLIA exhibited low detection limit and broad linear relationship, and was successfully applied for the analysis of AFB(1) contents in food samples.

Innovative modifications in food processing to reduce the levels of mycotoxins

Valeria M. R. Nunes et al.

Summary: The opinion article discusses the most recent advances in experimental food processing technologies for reducing mycotoxins levels in food products, including electron beam irradiation, cold atmospheric plasma, pulsed electric fields, and ozone application. While these techniques show promise in decontaminating food materials, their cost-benefit relationships need to be evaluated for each target food, and further research is necessary to clarify detoxification mechanisms, quantify nutritional value alterations, and determine potential interactions with the food matrix.
